Paramount clearly has hopes for this.. Their strong belief certainly should propel this into the stratosphere..
Forgot Hemsworth played Kirk's dad but more surprised Winona Ryder was Spock's mom. Her scenes were heavily edited down in the 2009 movie.
Writers wanted Kirk & Spock to have similarities of losing their parents at a young age...similar to how McCartney & Lennon bonded their friendship over their parents' deaths.

It's looking like the new show will be in the prime timeline, so it'll be interesting to see how much it differs from previous stuff.
