I admit I wasn't that big on this reboot franchise after Star Trek: Into Darkness. Didn't hate the film, but I felt it was a step down from the first one. But I keep hearing good things about this one, from various sources. Apparently it's really fun, has a very solid villain and, while there are a handful of moments that might be considered a bit contrived, it doesn't really detract from the overall quality of the film. Plus, both Kirk and Spock supposedly have some decent character development. So I am actually pretty keen on seeing it at this point.
Originally posted by SurturMy point is box office success isn't the end all be all with quality as another franchise has consistently made more ones which I find to be awful. Hopefully it'll change but the transformers movies are bad.
Do you feel the only thing successful about the latest Star Wars was the box office? Do you think people thought it was just a meh movie?
Star Wars has had some really solid films but just because a movie makes more money doesn't mean more quality necessarily. It's all subjective.
Originally posted by Darth ThorI want more Star Wars so I hope it continues to flourish. I have the First Order, Snoke, and even Kylo Ren the more evil character than Darth Vader. I want more of both. More Sci Fi in general also would be welcome by me.
Lol @ Quanchi's butt hurt over SW's box office.

Plus think about it this way: we should be happy we have all this good sci fi. Think about the last time both Star Wars and Trek had movies coming to theaters. It was a shit fest. The Trek movies based off TNG were awful, and the SW's prequels were awful.

Even First Contact?

IMO yes. All TNG movies seem like they were written by someone who never watched the TNG series. But the one where they encounter the race of people who dislike "technology" just makes me want to perform some bloodletting on myself.
I don't care about Insurrection to argue about it, but First Contact? I have to disagree. Okay, sure, the Montana stuff is awful at times and is an at times jarring shift in tone, but the stuff on the Enterprise? I don't think it has one bad scene, and we finally get to see Picard get his closure.
It was nice to see Picard get some closure, but like I said those movies just make me think someone who never saw the series wrote them.
Reminds me of the Nostalgia Critic review of one of the TNG movies he did with Linkara. You have a scene of Riker kissing Troi and Troi goes "ohh you've never kissed me with a beard before". Then cue Linkara showing half a dozen clips from TNG of Riker kissing her with a beard.
Plus the movies killed Data. Oh lord I just remembered the horrid "emotion chip" plotline in the movie. Damn that is bleak, and hell it's also a plot they did much better in an episode of TNG.

The Star Wars prequels 10-15 years ago were making more than these new Trek movies at that time Lol

Eh, I still think you can't put First Contact in the same bracket as Insurrection. That and Nemesis reek of the cast just showing up to piss about with their friends in something vaguely resembling Star Trek. FC, even with Brannon Braga on the writing staff, is as good as most TNG imo.
Abrams doesn't want Shatner:
Hater 😉
