He talked about how lame the time travel was in the first Abrams film you tool.

Yeah Nexus was lame. I remember when Picard was crossing over with Kirk I was expecting some awesome time travel film, kind of like what we ended up getting in Abrams 2009 Trek.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. It's a serviceable popcorn movie to me, and it did give the franchise new breath after Voyager, Nemesis and Enterprise (most of which is Brannon Braga's fault, the guy was involved in at least two of those) hurt it as badly as they did.

I wouldn't say much more than that about it, and I wasn't a massive fan of Into Darkness, but I have heard mostly good stuff about Beyond, so fingers crossed. Bar a couple of weird spoilers I read, it does seem to be talked about as if it's the best of the trilogy.

^ Yeah I've heard. That's surprising. I was honestly expecting this one to suck.

Early on, I thought the same. I worried that Pegg was given more influence too, but now it seems it might have been premature.

I'll be there opening week anyway, so hoping for the best.

Worried about Pegg? He's a fantastic writer and comedian with a deep love for the material. The guy co-wrote Spaced and the entire Cornetto trilogy. I don't understand the complaints people have sometimes

^ He really ain't that funny, and most his movies seem quite silly to me. But that's just my opinion.

Plus his comments while writing this about working out why Star Trek wasn't making 1Billion just seemed like a silly penis measuring contest, and not really like someone with a passion for the project.

They weren't trying to make a Billion with Deadpool(for example). They were just passionate about the project which is why it made the kind of numbers Trek is still dreaming about.

His early work is excellent imo. But he has dropped off in recent years, and only seems to excel in movies where he isn't part of the creative process.

He is a decent Scotty though, I'll give him that.

Simon Pegg is a genius.

Hopefully LucasFilm gets him to write a SW film. 🙂

Fair enough if you don't like his style of comedy. Agreed that his early stuff is brilliant. I'm also a big fan of his stand up so Pegg writing Trek never worried me. What worried me was Justin Lin making the movie too fast and furiousy, which I'm reading in reviews isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I just think his last few movies weren't very good bar the Star Trek stuff which, even with its problems, isn't down to Pegg.

Making Star Trek at all Fast and Furiousy should worry anyone, but the reviews so far have been positive.

That's exactly what I didn't like about the first one. So if this one doesn't have that I'll probably enjoy it a lot more.

All subjective.

time travel returns in Trek 4.. as for this one here, I doubt time travel is involved

No time travel in this one. That I can verify. Wasn't a huge crowd for this film at my theatre either.

I am surprised no one has seen this besides me here yet.

Just saw Star Trek beyond and it's fantastic. Absolutely jam packed with crazy action but still maintains the essence of Trek. I think it's just a hair below the first JJ Abrams Star Trek but leagues better than Into Darkness. Chris Pine nails the shatnerisms perfect choice

8/10 GO WATCH

Idris Elba was a pretty decent villain but nothing extraordinary though

Great to hear, I too thought the first one was better than the second with te first being a good/enjoyable film.

Most of you Trekkies didn't love Into Darkness. How is that even possible ?
