I thought Krall was a solid villain, though I would've liked to have seen some more of his motivation for his hatred of the Federation. He could've used a bit more dialogue, or maybe some more showings of his Captain log or something to benefit his character.

Basically Krall turned out to be a black soldier angry at the Federation for abolishing racism & prejudice against other species & their cultures.

Then again, it's the KKKelvin Time-Line after all.

Yeah, I thought Krall as a villain was stupid. The motivations were dumb. A lot of the movie kind of hinged on his whole ordeal and it really wasn't explained very well. The makeup wasn't particularly great, either. Idris Elba was largely wasted.

I just finished watching Beyond less than an hour ago & I honestly don't know whether I liked it or not.

I felt bad about The Enterprise being destroyed.
I was saddened to see Anton on screen knowing that he was dead in real life but I honestly wasn't moved by the plight of the crew.
I knew they would get saved.

Knowing Lin directed the movie...it kinda played out like a Fast & Furious plot in space. It was a heist formula but instead of money, gold, secret codes...it was simply a story line to steal back the crew.

Yup, it was mediocre at best. I wanted to like some of the situations, but ultimately I thought it failed. Sadly, I think I preferred the JJ Abrams ones (I can't believe I just said that).

😕

Lin has a fanbase for his FF franchise & although I've seen most of them out of boredom, I'm not a fan.

I think Lin's approach became undone when he tried to treat the ST Crew as he would with the FF Crew & then lost direction when he realised that not every member of the ST Crew could kick ass or was meant to for that matter.

And The Beastie Boys finale was pretty cringe worthy but at least more enjoyable to that predictable fist fight Kirk always seems to have.

Yup, well put.

Haha, yeah... my friends and I laughed pretty hard at that. AT it, not WITH it. It was especially stupid since they already used that song in the first film.

Agreed. Shit movie.

Weakest of the 3 NuTrek films, though I still enjoyed it. 7.0-7.5/10 IMO. I wonder what Paramount will do going forward, as Star Trek 2009 is one of my favorite sci-fi movies.

Into Darkness is still to date the best Trek by far.

You hate the Kelvin timeline and favor the prime timeline we get it. I'm the only one on this entire forum who greatly favors the Kelvin timeline and supports it. **** yeah, ME!!!!

I don't mind the timelines have been altered. Beyond was just a bad movie.

This movie was alright but kind of disappointing. The other two movies were tied into the stories within the ST universe with nice alterations. This one had none. I understand it is a different timeline but I think that is what made the others movies good in that you could tie them to a TV show or movie story line and see the changes due to the alternate timeline.

Yes! Just watched the episode of TNG where Riker is surgically altered to make first contact with aliens and then he gets injured and captured.

Then the woman who plays "Lilith" in Frasier makes him bang her in order to get her help to escape..and he apparently does!
