His hair color certainly seems different here, it has that SSGSS color to it but it's not the Super Saiyan hair we're used to so who knows if it's something like what Elder Kai did to Gohan but in a SSGSS state? He's the only hero left in his era so I wouldn't be surprised if all the upgrades we know of were dumped on him, he has to get stronger to be able to still keep everything safe. Albeit idk how he would have achieved SSG without the other Saiyans, maybe there was a loophole or maybe this form isn't as strong as SSB but he can sustain it indefinitely or for a longer time without a taxing power drain.
I don't know it's all speculation at this point, it might just be a different hair color who knows. I think he'll definitely be bringing something to the table though, I feel Toriyama will throw him a few bones due to his popularity and to make him relevant again.
Also, out of curiosity, how do you guys generally reconcile the lack of destructive scale in most DBS fights, (with SSG Goku vs Beerus being a large outlier in this regard)? I mean, we've also seen Champa and Beerus destroy planets with punches and kicks and what not, but still, I feel like that given the powers of these characters, they should ALL be consistently dishing out power on a cosmic scale. Is Ki Control really the main/only reason?

Simple, DBZ fights usually look low level because they are. Dating all the way back to early Dragon Ball, Roshi went from blowing up a moon to claiming he couldn't possibly defeat the Red Ribbon Army, mostly made up of regular humans and a few metas.
But Toriyama's a joke writer, and the stories have always been a joke. In fact, past the Cell saga, I'm convinced Toriyama considered his fans more of a joke then his writing. They're the one's taking an obvious parody super seriously, so he's just feeding them the crap they want.
But I wouldn't take ANYTHING he writes any more seriously then I would a Squirrel Girl story. No, scratch that, I'd have much more respect for Squirrel Girl.. At least it's honest about what it is, and her fans seem to understand it's a joke.

Think about it. Ever fight will not display what you're expecting to see. Points to Galactus fights against any other universal being. A Universe was threatened 3 times in DBS, that's literally all we need to know where they are at power wise and Goku was able to control his power to a certain level where he was able to fight all out without threatening the surrounding area.
With that said, Naruto will not be tanking moon busting in every fight, Thanos will not be busting planets in every fight, Galactus will not be threatening Galaxies in every fight. This is all fairy tales writing. It was established in Bills and Goku latest fight that the planet was in jeopardy.
