I don't think the tournament is going to end with one Universe standing. I think a serious threat is going to show up which is going to change things in the tournament and by the looks of it, it isn't going to be Jiren. I think the hype Jiren is receiving is to pull our attention away from the real threat. The one that hasn't showed up yet.

Huh? That's the point.Jiren (who isn't this mortal, apparently) is currently waaaay more powerful than the likes of Goku, Vegeta, and Frieza. This U4 mortal would be stronger than even that. So essentially:
U4 Mortal > Beerus > Jiren >> Goku/Vegeta/Frieza.
A mortal being stronger than Beerus in the tournament doesn't explicitly contradict Beerus not fearing the likes of Goku/Vegeta/Frieza.
As for the episode... Let's just make Gohan the fodder of everything.
But next epiosde.... why throw a spirit bomb at someone who isn't evil. You bounced it off Gohan to hit Vegeta..and it's literally never worked against anyone except evil incarnate.

If the betrayal was real, it'd have been pretty stupid on Frieza's part. We've already seen that regardless of where you are, if your home universe is erased you're erased too, so there's not really any switching sides. I'm glad that the writers didn't make Frieza an imbecile that would actually try it, and I'm equally glad that they made Frost an imbecile that fell for it.

Was beyond hyped when Frieza cleared up what I was asking about awhile back about what if you didn't kill someone in the tournament but

Although Gohan irked me a bit about how he seemed upset at the whole ordeal, your universe is on the line, who gives a flying rats ass about someone from somewhere else, I get being compassionate but do it for your own team bub lol.

Spirit bomb got retconned to working against good guys in the Buu arc. This was shown with Goku worrying about hitting a worn out Vegeta by mistake and Kid Buu nearly destroying Goku when he was pushing it back.
And Goku was only worried about it because it wasn't working, and he wasn't strong enough to fight Kid Buu is he pushed it away.
