So Chapter 51...

-Moro is running around the galaxy absorbing planet after planet, and growing exponentially more powerful.
-Vegeta has gone to Yardrat in hopes that its inhabitants can teach him brand new techniques that might help against Moro. I doubt one of those techniques will be IT, but we'll see.
-Merus is ridiculously skilled/powerful. He was casually evading attacks from SSJ3 Goku without really exerting himself at all. Goku powered up to SSG against him, but their training location couldn't take the output, so their sparring match was stopped.
-Goku believes Merus is a far superior fighter, to the point that he actually wants Merus to train him. Why? Because Goku thinks Merus can help him fully master UI:

So it would seem that we may very well see Goku activate UI again in this arc, which is not at all what I expected... mmm

And, some rogues are heading to Earth, so maybe we will get to see Gohan, and Piccolo get some good fights in. Even though Vegeta said that their boss is even weaker than Trunks without Moro's help.

Yeah, Kid Trunks being able to stomp the most powerful member of Moro's crew really diminishes their status as a legitimate threat.

I mean, Moro's gang is still powerful enough to conquer most other worlds in U7, but if they go to earth without Moro, they'll get raped.

A lot of this arc is making no sense to me. Its just stuff happening. Why does vegeta think yardrat can teach him something new ...? Why Does Moro waste his last wish ..?

Now he's training Goku. We've entered full blown Mary Sue territory with this guy.

Vegeta going to Yardrat is super random. Up to now the only special technique we've ever seen or heard of from them is IT. Hell, even when we saw Jimizu...who was an actual Yardrat...fight during the ToP, the only thing that made him noteworthy was his tactical use of IT during combat -- but Freeza was able to counter that w/o much of an issue. Anything Vegeta learns from them will just be a huge asspull.

I'd much rather have seen Vegeta seek out the Metamorans here. They invented the fusion dance, ffs... Stands to reason they'd have a LOT more esoteric abilities in their arsenal for Vegeta to learn. /shrug

Moro using the third wish to release his gang of minions is stupid. It's not like he needs them in order to absorb planetary energy, and he obviously could have broken them out of Galactic Patrol prison without a problem, so wasting a whole wish on that is f*cking retarded.

Merus' speed/movements have been haxx ever since he was introduced... He's literally been untouchable up to this point.

Tbh, I'm starting to wonder if Merus uses some variation of UI to move the way he does..? That would certainly explain why Goku thinks he can help him learn to master UI.

The thing is, he literally came out of nowhere. Hax power levels by themselves are nothing new, it's how they retconned him into a pre-existing group that is waaay above anything we've heard about.

What was the Galactic Patrol doing during Freeza's reign? Why didn't Jaco try and contact him for Golden Freeza's invasion? Hell, why wasn't Merus invited to the ToP, he would have been a real asset.

I mean, you know Amadeus Cho came out of nowhere in Marvel, and how when he outsmarted Reed, everyone accused him of being a Mary Sue? Kind of how I'm feeling Merus's character, and his sudden importance to Goku's "really REALLY mastered MUI".

inb4 merus is a retired angel from one of the destroyed universes

I'd actually love that, if only because it proves an Angels existence isn't either eternal service to a boor at best, or going through universe after universe erasure at worst.

Well, we know that the angels wouldn't have been erased with the universes during the ToP incident, so if there were originally 18 universes, we are missing 5 angels.

Oh I agree with that.

Merus not stepping in against some of the threats we've seen in the series is retarded if he's been running around policing the universe all this time.

That would actually be a really cool way to explain why Merus is so randomly OP.

Perhaps when he chose to step down into the realm of 'mortals', he had to give up his staff(which seems to be the primary source of Angel haxx), but still retained his fighting ability.

mmm

Thats a whole like better than him randomly helping goku master a level even the Gods of destruction cant master

👆

Per the manga, Beerus seems to be the only GoD who can use UI in any tactical capacity(that was literally credited as THE reason why he was able to out-fight all of the other GoDs simultaneously)... But even he hasn't fully mastered UI yet.

Up until now, the only beings we know of who actually have mastered UI, and actually can teach others how to use it, are the Angels. So the fact that Goku(who has trained extensively with Whis) thinks Merus can help him master UI, really does lend to the idea that Merus was an Angel at some point.

I mean, the alternative would be some stupid asspull explaining why Merus just happens to be the only mortal in all the universes with Angel-level speed/reactions. So I really would like to get some sort of 'divine' backstory story for him... At least that would make his abilities a bit more believable. /shrug

So if Buu turns an immortal guy into candy and eats him, or simply absorbs him, does that make him immortal?

Was thinking about how current Buu vs Zamasu would go.

Boo can use all of the noteworthy traits/abilities of those he absorbs, so I don't see why he wouldn't gain the true immortality of someone like Zamasu as well.

Hmm, would be something interesting for sure if Merus is an angel. Maybe that's why Beerus and Whis have been kept out of it. Cause Whis would notice.

Though as for him not coming in sooner, isn't the part of the universe everything happens in, Jaco's area of patrol? Who never calls in for help even if he knows about things.

Ha, could be. Jaco is to Merus as Vegeta is to Goku.

My theory about UI not relying on a massive power level is looking more credible.

Maybe Yamaha could have really taken Jiren, had he mastered it.

"Oooh, Goku, you've mastered Ultra Instinct!"

"Yeah, I was trained by this Galactic Patrolman named Merus!"

"Isn't he the one who arrested you when you went on a destruction bender, Lord Beerus?"

"....shutup..."

As usual, your theory is wrong, have you ever been right about anything related to dragon ball?
