So now the manga appears to be doing a recap version of the events of Super Hero.
Whether it's the anime or manga, I guess they just can't resist doing recaps of the Super movies still; Broly being the only exception for some reason.
So we're going to have months of what is basically Toyotaro retelling the story of the Super Hero movie. At least I won't have to see another animated Cell Max, but still wasting the viewers' time.
Battle of the Gods and Resurrection F had manga recaps too, iirc. From what I more recently heard, was also something Toriyama insisted on at the time for some reason, for both that and the two films having the anime recap arcs.
Forgot if it was ever mentioned here, but I remember hearing that Toriyama was upset at how bad the animation for the Battle of Gods and Resurrection F anime recaps were, but with how pointless they were anyway, it's comeuppance in a way; if he's indeed the reason those recaps happened to begin with.
I mean Toei already blew their load with BotG and RoF as films. Expecting them to have the same kind of magic for them as anime recap arcs is unrealistic. Movie recaps are the most blatant waste of money I can think of; even when I didn't think of them as wastes I usually had no desire to watch recaps of movies that were longer at the time.
Obviously too we can thank Toriyama for the Super Hero recap the manga is now having, with him breathing down Toyotaro's neck to do a manga version of SH. Overall, just wasting the time, money, and talent of fellow DB creators, as well as wasting the time of the audience that have already consumed the films.
At least a manga recreation is only wasting Toyotaro's time and ours rather than wasting as much money to pay crunched animators, but still terrible and annoying. The films just kinda have to exist in a vacuum for no real reason.
Toriyama didn't have as much an attachment to Broly to do some recap on his film. I guess because Tori wasn't the original creator of Broly, he merely rebranded the character. Hence, DBS Broly only having one manga page referencing that it happened.
tl;dr: All of modern DB's problems go back to Toriyama as usual. The way he holds the series back with all the padding and recaps is unforgiving.
Originally posted by cdtmWhis directly mentioned the events of ROF in the manga. I think it was during the lead up to the TOP.
Did Revenge of Freeze even happen, or was that a reference or promo to the movie too?
And based on the solicits for this month's chapter, it looks like we are gonna get a complete manga adaption of the new movie, which is weird.
