First its in the "language of the law"Then its actual law..
That's not what I was asking. How is changing the "language of the law" in this case a "degradation of society"?
Are you saying that homosexuality is a "degradation of society"?
To be honest, I think keeping people who love each other from being able to merry is a "degradation of society".
As a married man living in California, I have no problem with the law seeing me as a "spouse" instead of a husband, it literally changes nothing in my life that is of concern, not privately, not publicly, not legally.
edit: Actually, it might change something for the better, as the courts seem to favor the "wife" when it comes to children and divorce. Both partners being equal as "spouse" might help to ride some of that sexist attitude towards men. So go new wording 👆

Well, once you pass the right for same sex couple to marry, you'll have to start thinking about how to word this in your legal documents. At the face of it there's 3 main ways you could do that, 2 of them acceptable and inclusive and 1 homophobic bullshit. These are 1) call everyone spouses and don't concern yourself with the gender of the people in the marriage 2) call both partners wives or husbands depending on their gender (I pronounce you wife and wife, so to speak) or 3) what homophobic assholes would prefer, keep the terms "husband" and "wife" only for heterosexual couples, and call same sex couples "partners" or "spouses".California seems to have gone with option 1, and good on them.
I honestly don't know why they just can't use the word husband or wife? Two women: wife and wife. Two men: husband and husband. I don't see the problem.
Are these gay married men NOT going to be referring to their partner as their husbands? Will lesbians not be referring to their partners as their wife?
There is a thing we sometimes do in this country where we make shit more complicated then it needs to be.

It's not complicated at all. It would be more complicated if male and female marriages used "husband and wife", and homo married couples were referred to as "partners" or some shit.
Your solution works too as Bardock said, but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with using spouse for everyone. 👆
There is nothing wrong with it, but it just doesn't make any actual sense to change it when an easier solution would be "refer to them all as either husband or wife, so two dudes equals two hubbies".
Unless people for some reason who are gay or lesbian have a PROBLEM with it, which would make even less sense. I can totally see people against gay marriage having a problem with it, but it makes no sense to cater to them for this because those same people would have a problem if you took away the words "husband" and "wife".

You're crying about nothing.
TI, will you stop bringing in irrelevant things to attack Bardock with? At least his comments are based on things you said in this very thread. Whilst I'd rather that hadn't become the focus of the thread, that was a pretty dumb joke you made that left yourself open for it. Responding by simple flaming like that is right out.
