Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire

ME2's SUICIDE MISSION was damn near perfect. It was tense, excellent use of music, people could die(which leads to a bunch of problems in ME3 given there's a budget and time constraints), and you actually utilized everyone(because that's the one thing a leader in a BioWare game almost never gets to do). But nothing that actually happened in it, "It's a human reaper(dundunduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun)." "They're liquefying us and we don't know why, for some reason." was good writing. Good utilization, yes? Writing? No. And the final talk with the Illusive Man was retarded, especially given the fact that the Illusive Man himself hadn't gone stupid evil yet.

That being said, the Suicide Mission is on of the very, very, few missions that actually deal with ME2's plot instead of being a recruit mission or one that deals with my crew's dad problems.

Fair enough. I thought you were stating all the ME games had bad endings.

Anyway, back on SWTOR, as shitty as the story seems to be; I'm looking forward to this game more than anytime since it's release. I actually just resubed.

ME1's ending was great. You ride the Mako into a miniature relay, run up the side of the Citadel, shoot Sovereign a few times or something then have a badass showdown with Saren in the Council chambers. Awesome!

I liked it as well. I just brought up ME2's because it is one of my favorites.

I think Bioware was still riding high from the ME trilogy when they decided to make SWTOR. What a bummer that turned out to be. Also not thrilled about the new ME trailer. I don't know why they need another game.

Interview: Backus delved a bit into the story about major players who were seen in the trailer as well as those in the walk-through. The Emperor of the Eternal Empire is Valkorian, who has twin sons — Thexan and Arkan — and a lightning-flinging daughter, Vaylin. Backus noted that there are a lot of politics going on with this family, but he wouldn’t share details saying that the background is part of the chapters of the epic story. He did, however, note that “some of the lore and some of the fiction that we are establishing actually starts with Shadow of Revan.” As he put it, “I guarantee that once you play through especially the first nine chapters if not the first 16 chapters of Fallen Empire, if you go back through Revan and play through Revan, you can start to see hints of what’s coming.” What happened to the Empire and the Republic? That, too, is in the story, but suffice it to say that they were conquered and now folks from both those sides are working together to get you — the hero — to the point where you can save them all from the Eternal Empire. No, really: You are the chosen one. Literally. As Backus said, “You’re special, and you’re special for a reason!” You need to restore your power and be the figurehead to fight the Eternal Empire. The whole story revolves around you.

For some reason, I can't edit the above. Anyway, it looks like we will get to see Vitiate or Revan again soon given the "you can start to see hints of what's coming."

mmm

Guess that's your problem. I can't think of a single plotline I didn't like. Knight wasn't too good but it built up to an epic showdown and I had fun roleplaying it. Consular was really cool with the Act I mystery and then the Children storyline. Smuggler was hilarious and a fun romp. Trooper was probably my least favorite but I still enjoyed being a soldier and roleplaying military shit. Inquisitor was awesome and it was great to be a cackling villain rising to power. Warrior was cool for being like an honorable Dark Knight character. Bounty Hunter had a great Act I villain and I really like Mako and collecting difficulty bounties and shit. And Agent was the best class story in the game.

I could probably go further and write up mini-reviews for each class and maybe even some thoughts on the companions, but lets just leave it that I genuinely enjoyed the plot of the game. It was a fun Bioware experience, just like all their other games.

I'm playing through the Inq story-line right now, and I can't believe you actually like it. It's laughably bad.

He is saying you will see hints of this expansion in Shadow of Revan. Not that Revan or Vitiate will return.

And yeah, I'm having the same problem when I try to edit my post.

Well, Act I is a bunch of fetch quests sure. The bits between the planet quests are the best parts, when you build up to the confrontation that the end. I liked recovering the lost parts of my families legacy and interacting with Kallig and Khem and stuff. Afterwards it's pretty solid. You don't play Inq for the story, it's more for the power-trip and stuff.

Also why are you continuing to play a game you think is shit? It's quite a time-sink.

I'd say the reverse, Act 1 was solid and I enjoyed it, but Act 2 and 3 was just other people telling you what planning and scheming you should do.

Valkorian and Vitiate are actually brothers, and Arcann & Dexan were an allegory for the Emperor and his brother. Valkorian and Vitiate were seperated in their youth, and now Valkorion has returned to subsume his brother.

:mmm: I could get behind that...

Agreed.

My favorite storyline by far is the Wrath's. It actually felt coming-of-age, and in the in, with all against you, you claw your way to the top with your own two hands. Compliments are given sure, but you aren't be spoon fed like the rest of the protagonists. The qualities all downhill from there.

Not with the 12x exp boost. 😛

I enjoyed the Bounty Hunter storyline for the same reason, as well as given the player an actual reason to what the main antagonist dead.

The Wrath's was easily my favorite as well. You actually felt like a Sith and not just some deranged killer. I especially loved when you converted that one Jedi to the dark side.

The Wrath story was nothing special for me, Cipher Nine takes the cake and there should be no arguments about that. The story was phenomenal and unlike the others you can change your storyline unbelievable amounts.

I enjoyed the Barsen'thor line, despite what many people say. I liked the idea of you saving the Republic through diplomatic ties and the raising of an army. The hero of tython runs around acting all special but the Consular saved the Republic from the two largest threats that it faced. I liked the understated hero storyline of the consular more than the "IM SO ****ING AWESOME" style of the Knight story...

I disliked how the whole act was just like "go here and find a thing, repeat". It felt like an act long fetch quest. Especially when it was all for a ritual I knew was a trap and had no interest in doing. The other storyline's all gave you a reason to want to go to all these places. With the Jedi you actually felt like you were saving Jedi Masters or entire planets, with the Warrior you felt like you were tracking down Jaessa, a Smuggler chasing the big score etc. With the Inq, I just felt like I was a lowly apprentice performing menial tasks for Zash.

The final 2 acts felt more personal, I had some stakes in beating Thanaton. And by that point I felt like a badass and enjoyed it more.

I felt the opposite, the Warrior gets preferential treatment for the whole game and prestige gets handed to you pretty much. With the Inquisitor you really have to claw your way to getting some respect.

Is it hard keeping up with equipment that way? I don't imagine you need to do many quests.

Blood was easily the most hateable villain in the game imo. Which makes him a great villain, I couldn't wait to kill that guy.

Consular is my favorite Republic story. 👆
