Itachi without Kishi's dick riding is nothing but a fly against Pain.
Pain took on a whole village by himself, then he destroyed said village. Fought against Sage Naruto with Ma/Pa's assistance. Then casually dismissed Gamabuntan and 2 giant other Toads like they were nothing with a casual Shinra Tensei.
After that he took on the 6 tails, survived a partial of the 6 tails Bijuu Bomb, cast Shibaku Tensai. After all that he was ready to take the 8 tails on. Then do to plot, Naruto was restored to full health, even then Pain was still kicking his ass.
Oh, Pain did all this with the mindset of capturing Naruto alive. If Pain's mindset was to kill Naruto, he would have done that 100 times over.
Before anyone brings in Itachi's bullshit fight against Nagato needs to remember that Itachi had Naruto and Bee helping him.
Then some might bring the Tosuka blade as a defense needs to know that somehow Kishi's once more dick riding of Itachi had Nagato magically forget that he posses the power to absorb any chakra constructs. Guess what the blade is made off.
Kishi shitted on a bad ass character like Pain/Nagato just because he's name wasn't Uchiha.

Besting an Edo Tensei Nagato, who had all the Path abilities, with zero effort, where KCM Naruto and Killer Bee were about two seconds away from getting vaporized/sent to hell.
