Supernatural Season 11

Said it before, I'll say it again: Supernatural hasn't been great since season 2 or good since season 4/5. It was pretty effective as a horror show about two smart mortals against the forces of darkness, but any horror angle really ended the moment the boys got angels on their team. Demons are largely insignificant, to say nothing of lesser creatures like vampires, werewolves, etc.

The past 6 seasons have been nothing but a study in ass pulls, retcons, and transparent oneupsmanship. It's trying way too hard to be the next Buffy/Angel in terms of a supernatural dramedy, but it will never come close to those shows.

It needed to stick to what it was good at IMO and that is provide scares and thrills on primetime network TV. It hasn't done that in ages.

The show was supposed to end with Sam in the cage with Lucifer.

It would have been a great series if it did.

iirc, this wasn't supposed to go past 5 seasons.

I really don't think it's trying to be Angel or Buffy. Not all supernatural shows with humorous aspects are trying to be Buffy. They've carved out a universe all their own. I saw someone perfectly sum up Joss Whedon and the Buffyverse once: Joss Whedon, he's funny when he's trying to be funny and hilarious when he's trying to be serious.

Plus hell it's not like every episode since season 5 has been horrible, not to me. I also don't know what to tell you if you ever thought this show was truly scary.

But may I ask why you continue to watch episodes of the show you seem to of despised since season 5? You sure seem well versed on the last 6 seasons of a show you don't like.

I just said that, you dumb ****.

Well that certainly was a perfectly reasonable reaction.

See now here is where the show went wrong. They try to make Crowley look like a broken man and then of course try to make him look bad ass again. Which is fine, but they do it at the expense of making Lucifer look kind of like a chump. He would potentially be dead right now if random demon #4 didn't throw herself in front of the bullet for him. See Crowley never seemed to be as overly clever really. He just knew how to take advantage of situations. Which is I guess what he did here.

Also did the demons not get the "Lucifer see's you as lower then humans" memo?

I really enjoyed this latest episode. It was nice to see Rufus and Bobby again.

Show has been renewed for a 12th season.

I enjoyed the last episode. Bobby and Rufus make an entertaining team. I'd actually be down for something like a short spinoff mini-series, detailing some of the adventures those two had together.

I still need to know whatever the f*ck happened with them in Omaha. Rufus obviously blames Bobby for the death of someone. His wife? Daughter?

That's exactly it. These two seem to have so much history. I would love to get more insight into some of the events the two of them occasionally referenced in passing, such as the instance you brought up.

I have to give props to Sam after this last episode. He is one tough SOB. He gets

Spoiler:
shot and strangled, and still takes out a couple of werewolves before pulling Dean out of the fire. And Dean was an idiot with his OD plan.

The latest episode does something the show rarely does..which is make Sam look really really bad ass and make Dean look really really f*cking stupid.

Well, they had to at some point. The brothers are supposed to be virtual equals when it comes to being hunters (though they both have areas where they are obviously stronger than the other). So when Sam constantly acts like an idiot and Dean has to save him, it gets a bit ridiculous after a while. So I am glad they gave Sam a win for a change.

Glad someone else noticed the preferential treatment Dean is given as the more badass hunter.

It's why I still think deep down Sam>Dean.

Well, I personally prefer the episodes where both brothers are shown as capable and pulling their own weight. The episodes where one acts like a total idiot and the other one has to save them (regardless of who is in which role) are the weaker ones to me, and often don't make sense, as whoever is the dunce of the episode adopts a massive PIS helmet.

I liked the episode that had the Bobby/Rufus thing going on as well. Both Sam and Dean took part in the research, figured out what needed to be done, and played important parts in getting the job done in the end (Sam taking care of the real world situation while Dean handles what's inside the nest).

The whole who is better thing is kind of pointless to me. The brothers are portrayed as having their own strengths and weaknesses, and complimenting each other because of it, but both are highly skilled and able hunters, who have shown the ability to operate solo as well. Fact is that neither should be looking stupid every few episodes.

I agree. The problem is that the show has been Dean-centric for years and years and years. Most of the supporting characters have stronger relationships with Dean: Castiel, Bobby, Crowley, John, Death, etc. Most of the major kills have been awarded to Dean. Sam is more or less the bookworm and backup to Dean's heroics.

I did overall enjoy the episode, though part of me wishes they would try to introduce new monsters in these "monster of the week" episodes.
