MID-HERALD TOURNAMENT DISCUSSION

Yeah, Karmic Blasts are created by the gem, but aren't beyond anything else at this level.

Warlock is actually a great versatility pick, much more so than most people realize. He's got all kinds of sneaky sh*t lurking in his history. But if you take out Soul World (and, as mentioned, OHK soul suck), this is more than ok. Anyone objecting is just reacting to the presence of the gem, not reacting to anything that has happened on-panel. Guys like Cable and BA, to use a couple recent examples of drafts, would beat him straight-up (again, provided we outlaw Soul World and soul suck). The Creel mesh means he'd be...harder to kill, presumably. Not sure the gems can be broken physically, or if anyone's ever tried. So if that breaks some rule, so be it. But he'd be no more powerful in terms of soul-related powers.

And for reference, I'm obviously not going to help out Blair if I can help it. Dude is responsible for more of my tourney exits than anyone. But with the proper stips - which sound like they're in place - he's kosher.

...

I assume I can disappear again now. Let me know if someone wants to draft Death Metal or He-Man or something. Newjak can text me again so I can come in and lay some knowledge.

😎

Psycho hasn't been around, has he?

I'm going under the assumption that Absorbing Man is becoming a problem. There's also lots of questions about Warlock. I'd like to extend the draft period, but I understand DS probably won't be around.

Changing Absorbing Man for Manchester Black (under the assumption AM is illegal since Psycho deferred to Id last time as well). I may change again in the next 30 minutes, but I'd really like Gundam to be around to lay down the law either way. If the draft can be extended (due to mine, DS's, and smurphs - hell even Carvers - questions), great. If not, fine.

Current team:
Adam Warlock w/Soul Gem
Vulcan
Manchester Black

I'll go with what I have.

There's a character I asked Pyscho about. He hasn't read the PM, but his power is very weird (for a tournament setting at least). It would also change my tactics completely and at least two of my picks so I'm not going to draft them in the next 2 minutes only to have it all fall apart if it's deemed he's not allowed.

Sorry I've been the tournament problem child. If Adam Warlock's deemed too much of a hassle, then I'll have to re-evaluate stuff.

That's fine.

👆 Thanks B-Dub.

I'm pro-extension if it means a cleaner slate for round 2.

Notably, every competitor contributed to the conversation, so hopefully that indicates that we're not in immediate danger of losing interest/energy.

I read back a bit but it looks like Blair ditched Absorbing man which seemed to have been the issue. Hopefully Blair read that I replied to his PM as soon as I saw it

Anyone else agree on an extension?

I dispute Eradicator, as matter manipulators are restricted to low heralds and below.

Disputing a sentient Infinity Gem as a fourth pick in a team limited to 3.

Sunday at noon after your birthday should be the end cause things are still in contention.

Well depends.

Are we doing a vote now? Otherwise, everyone's happy with their own draft, no need to extend.

@Smurph...

Is this the Eradicator you're talking about?

I will not use fts from him.

He'll use this version:

Who is mid herald, but can matter manip. So illegal.

Its my understanding that the level of power was raised from Low to Mid Herald the moment Psycho allowed Mid Herald to be drafted. Therefore the mattater manipulation feats done by Eradicator fall within the limits of this tournament.

The Soul Gems sentience is symbiotic in nature. The gem by its self is not a fully functioning life form on its own. Therefore the gems intelligence should not impact the draft.

The Venom Symbiote is also sentient, should Venom and his kin be banned as well? Nova A.I. is also sentient, should Nova Prime outed as well? Or what about Fantomex, and the fact that he can draw out EVE who is a sentient being herself? Should Fantomex be banned?

Ok, fair enough.

I didn't know matter manipulators were allowed. Are mid herald speedsters allowed too then?

I def would like clarification on matter manips, though. Rules state very clearly that mid herald matter manips are illegal.

To be fair, DS had wanted to use firestorm and dropped him for the same reason. A few of the rules need clarification as they limit certain things under mid herald.

While things are still in contention, can we look at Aquarian? Like, how do you beat him? You can't use any powers, you can't kick or punch. Do you guys just offer a stalemate and go out for drinks?

And I'm willing to look for an Adam replacement. I have an idea I'm kicking around.

Note: Space Manipulation, Matter Manipulation, and the Speed Force is allowed provided that the drafted characters are low herald and below.

This was taken from the previous tournament, but was never updated the higher level of drafts.

With the exception of the Speed Force, you can draft Characters that can manipulate matter at a Mid Herald level.

You can apply this ability to the environment. You can not use offensive matter manipulation on your opponent.

If your opponent shots lazers at you, the lazers can be turned into harmless energy or matter like roses or something.

You are allowed to transmutate the environment. Turn the lakes into lava or whatever.

What you can not do is offensive matter manipulation on your opponent. You can not turn your opponent into a tree. You can target his tech or gear but the character itself.

Darksaint and everyone else can revisit thier drafts, thanks to the extension.

Aquarian does not seem to violate any rules. It's not our job to figure out how to beat a character.

Edit: saying that, this is kinda pointless now.

Had I known, then Eradicator would have been a pick for me. I'd have used abhi's scans (I was the judge then, so would have been pretty familiar with his capabilities).

Obv, now it is taken by carver - who chose him even though the rules at the time disallowed it.

We can't keep changing rules midway through a tourney. Be firm and consistent, and if you lot made a mistake with the rules, then own it.

Licking lips.

Imperiex Probe
Wundarr
Fate.

Bit of a shambles all around.
