Really hoping for a sequel and another fantasy big budget series.
the film has made $377 million worldwide s its safe to assume that it could very well get a sequel.
also can someone whose name is Zack M explain why a film with two of the greatest comic book characters of al time barely manage to make $95 million in China, but yet Warcraft, based on a game that stars D and F actors makes $200 million and counting in China???? 😆 😆 😆 😂 😂

See, I can be you. 😛

Well it made way more than Star Wars in China as well, so you'd also need to explain that.Chinese audiences obviously have different tastes. They're clearly into their gaming.
But how much profit did it actually make in China?
Apparently, the Chinese numbers might not be legit.
he impressive success of ‘Warcraft: The Beginning’ at China’s box office is currently under scrutiny following claims that Chinese conglomerate the Wanda Group may be fiddling the figures.Chinese conglomerate the Wanda Group is the focus of the accusations, which have primarily been made on social media (via China Film Insider). The company, which bought 'Warcraft’ production company Legendary Pictures for $3.5 billion in February, also owns a large number of cinemas in China.
A whopping 82 of these cinemas appeared in the top 100 highest-grossing cinemas in China this past Saturday, which fell on 'Warcraft’s second weekend in theatres. Typically, the number is around 40

I thought Warcraft would do a lot better in North America. Kind of surprised it didn't.
BUT the reality of it, is that Warcraft needs at least 500 M WW to BREAK EVEN.
Universal is reporting $24.4M for Duncan Jones’ Warcraft in second place. This is where the studio figured the bigscreen brawl between humans and orcs would file B.O. wise. The bigger play for this $160M production +$110M P&A vehicle is overseas. Global B.O. currently stands at $286.1M with 55% coming from China. Industry sources tell Deadline that breakeven is at $500M worldwide. CinemaScore sees the final domestic endgame for this videogame adaptation between $57M-$81M.

Universal better pray that it gets 100 M in Japan.

No. Centered on the human/orc conflict. We do get some scenes of some of the other races, but they're mostly minor.

Wow, that's pretty strange. I mean, the MMORPG has seen a steady drop in players for a while so I guess that could be a determining factor in the film's unsuccessful profits. Who knows, personally I thought the movie was pretty okay.

Not really interested in conspiracy theories until proven.
It was a massive massive hit in China even if the figures were fiddled with slightly.
Like Bruce said, massively bigger than BvS, and like I pointed out way bigger than Force Awakens as well.
As for this breaking even at 500mill, I don't get it. I thought Pacific Rim made profit with a bigger budget, and a poor domestic run as well? So I doubt that. It's like those rumours that BvS needed 800-850mill to break even. Don't buy into every figure you read.

it could very well make another $123 million, we just have to wait and see.. Pacific Rim was the same, poor in USA, did great overseas especially in China, now the sequel is finally coming out... The rumors about Bats V Supes having to make a certain amount of money were true since reputable websites had proof, also just look at WB bringing in Affleck to give Hack Snyder baby bottles and to rewrite the Justice League film as well as Berg and Johns joining to become their version of Kevin Feige

You only get 55 percent back from China anyway, so it's not that big of a deal.
Pacific Rim was a flop, too. Same with Warcraft. BVS did decently well in pretty much most markets other than China and did a Lot better domestic.
Multiple articles point Warcraft as a flop. Deal with it. It could still get a sequel, so don't lose hope
As somebody who has watched the awful film adaptations of Mario, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, DOOM, Dead or Alive, House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, Hitman, and Street Fighter, Warcraft is a stepping stone to actually having GOOD live action videogame based movies and for critics to tarnish this is sad.
Wow, the 3rd Narnia movie is having a somewhat same performance, box office wise. Obviously it didn't do nearly as good in China, but Warcraft had the same opening weekend and will likely end in a slightly better gross, world wide.
We’ve talked quite a bit this year about the mini-trend of cheaper, smaller-scale sequels attaching 3D for the sake of overseas grosses, translating into a smaller domestic take but a larger overseas one (think_G.I. Joe: Retaliationor_The Wolverine). Intentional or not, this one could arguably be considered the film that started said trend. Disney decided to pass on a third_Chronicles of Narnia_film after the insanely expensive ($220 million)_Prince Caspian_grossed “just” $419 million versus the first film’s $745m take.So Fox picked up the rights of the Walden Media-produced series, and a third film was commissioned to be both cheaper ($155 million this time) and set to release in the same mid-December slot where_The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe_scored five Decembers prior (Prince Caspian_debuted the third weekend in May, 2008). Alas, the domestic results were pretty grim, opening with just $24m (compared to the $67m and $55m debuts of the first two entries) and ending with $104m the states (compared to the $291m and $141m domestic results of the first two entries).
But thanks partially to the 3D conversion and partially due to Fox’s genuine magic touch overseas (really, go luck up some alleged Fox domestic flops and marvel at the overseas totals), the film grossed nearly three times its US total, for a $415 million total. While that was $4m less than_Prince Caspian, it was also cost $65m less to make. Most presumed this franchise was DOA back in December 2010. And due to Walden no longer having the rights and_needing to wait a few more years before they can be purchased again, it may be awhile before we see a fourth_Narnia_film. But the relative consistency shows that there is an audience for this seven-volume adventure saga.
Thing is the 4th one hasn't come out yet. Due to box office performance.

Thank Uwe Boll for that. 😉
One of the better game-to-movie adaptions I've seen is the Postal movie. Since you can't exactly mess up a movie based on a nonsensical game with little to no plot.
