For this, all they had to do is beam the physical ds plans from the cowardly rebel (or spy) running from Vader, Later on. Hence, Leias ship not being in the hull of the rebel cruiser.
Or, the ship leaving the hull was not Leias ship? Just the same model like many other ships (eg xwing) . Didn't someone say something like "here is the transmission we received" to leia?
Something as simple "transmit the plans" to another ship somewhere got muddled and complicated simply because the ending of the film needed to have a "tension" moment where it looks like Vader's about to get the plans. Which makes me wonder if that was his actual objective. If it was, he moved very slowly and didn't seem to try very hard to actually get that USB stick. All those wicked cool awesome Force powers he was using and he couldn't grab a flashdrive or the guy holding it.
And if that wasn't his objective, what was he doing there? Just hanging out waiting for some Rebels to stumble by so he could violently murder them and make the audience go "Oh f*ck yeah bud, here we go!"

His objective was to give us a "wickedly cool bad a$$ scene where Vader really kicks friggin butt and shows he's so gnarly cool and dark and powerful, dude and stuff... with CGI people thrown to the ceiling, that was so awesome "

Okay, now let's make it super complicated and pivot our entire climactic battle scene and character deaths around it. Holy f*ck we're going to make this big! Climb the archive tower to avoid getting shot by the bad guy that you personally know kinda. Then realign the dish to transmit the plans. Then signal the ground troops to signal the fleet. Then take control of this X-Wing by holding down the Y button. Attack the glowing power cores on the Star Destroyer. Trigger the quick time event. Face off against the bad guy that you have a personal animosity with. Get blowed up by the Death Star. Bonus round! Play as Darth Vader to kill some Rebels using yer lighsaber! and Force powahs!
It was like out of a video game. Throw Starkiller in there and it could have been The Force Unleashed III. All that for "Several transmission were beamed to this ship." It wasn't complicated and over-the-top in 1977, so why did it have to be now?
