Euh... you saw it?

Spoiler:

Planet surrounded by Imperial shield. The rebels use stolen shuttle with older code to pass to the planet surface. rebel fleet arrives to destroy the shield in order to (in the end) destroy the DS? Stars Destroyers collide and provide part of the victory...

The entire space battle was a complete rehash of ROTJ

That a very loose interpretation of events.

Spoiler:
The similarities pretty much end after the fact that shields have to be taken down and there is a space battle. Calling it a "complete rehash" is laughable.

And when do two ISD collide in RotJ? Do you mean when the Executor crashes into the DSII? Because that's entirely different from anything in RO.

The end battle drew inspiration from ANH and ROTJ, but was ultimately very different.

The last 30mins of this film were truly Epic.

It was just the right amount of nostalgia, but the story was served first and foremost IMHO.

Bizarrely enough the feeling that I most took away from this besides excitement and joy was the impression of a tabletop RPG where a bunch of outlandish badasses come together and go on an adventure. In a good way.

Spoiler:
And then they all die.
It was a really fantastic movie.

It's the ****ing best movie of 2016 and probably the best SW movie!

Superb action scenes and CGI event, your nerve was never dropped throughout the entire movie. We saw struggle in the rebel alliance and the cruelty of the empire so well.

Spoiler:
Great performance from everyone, Felicity Jones was AWESOME, both Jiang Wen and Zhenzi Dan did a good job. Both Mon Mothma and Bail were playe dby their PT actors. It was a shame that Mon Mothma's scenes from EP III were cut. Here she finally had screen time to show the rebel alliance leader with her great acting skill. How did make Tarkin appear? CGI? One flaw, they didn't the Ian reprise the Emperor!

The climax and the ending was so strong, Rogue One and the entire Republic Fleet there all gave up their lives for the precious record, unlike the main series, where you can't chop off the big three, well not until EP VII. Which is why I'm SO opposed to rev dead people up. Because only if you know that dead might never come back, people's death could cause such a shock. While the old SW EU got so many problems, it rarely bring back dead character, unlike other franchise.

Man it was so GREAT, thank you everyone, I wish to see more movies like that. WOW!

I'm just glad that even though he lost an arm and a leg, Vader managed to hold on to that great sense of humor.

The bad: Everyone's favorite pilot doesn't get a cameo.

Spoiler:
Porkins.

Did they make that

Spoiler:
"choked"
scene because Ben Mendelsohn's character was choked by Bane in TDKR?

It's just as different from the ROTJ battle as the TFA battle was from ANH. The concepts are the same.

Mind you, I don't mind it so much. But if people are saying TFA is such a copy and RO is so original (despite the endless list of cameo's callbacks (even worse than TFA) and similar scenes), then they use double standards.

I'll say it again:
1. RO has quite lousy characters and a very, very boring, dull first hour that drags and drags
2. The film makers should start taking the SW universe seriously and go way beyond callbacks and referencing the previous films. Come up with something original, for a change. They're making the SW universe so small...

I hate to say it, because I will always love SW but geofiction wise SW is still a faint shadow compared to the much more in depth works of geofiction like Dune and Middle Earth.

Agreed!!!

Well the actual battle in TFA isn't a copy of ANH's, in fact it is far more similar to RotJ (more so than R1) than ANH. The problem is the plot of TFA is basically ANH's.

As for callbacks, in R1 they make sense. It is after all, mere days before ANH. The only ones I thought were gratuitous were

Spoiler:
Dr. Evazan and Pando Baba.
The rest fit in quite naturally.

At this point I think we have a clear new frontrunner for Snoke,
Spoiler:
Vader’s servant.
Though I think that is unlikely as well.

Just watched it again. And think that guy looked way too old to be Snoke given the time period.

TFA seemed like nothing but hype once I actually watched it. Likely this will be the same, I'm gonna hold off.

Spoiler:
Did we know they were going to survive or something? I thought they were all supposed to die...and that everyone knows they are going to do because they were the ones that obtained the Death Star plans that sets up the iconic trench run stuff from ANH. I feel like I may have missed something leading up to this film and perhaps Disney gave people false/misdirected hope that this was a slightly different group that contributed to the Death Star plans and they live? I have not seen the film yet but I figured I would spoil myself on some comments in this thread.

I didn't really get into Rogue One until the final battle

And no

Spoiler:
opening crawl?
Without that then is this really a Star Wars movie???

And if anyone says this is the best SW movie then no, it isn't, ANH or ESB but this one definately not.

Are you talking about Sith Alfred?

TFA doesn't deserve a mention - Agreed.

I don't remember seeing any Jetpack Troopers for the movie, Might have been something they cut out from those reshoots.
