Great for a Star Wars spin off.

Aside from the final act (which is head and shoulders above TFA's final act), It beats TFA in special effects, in giving us a new and original story, in new designs, in changing the tone, in being creative, and most of all in having some balls.
No, it isn't. You comer this final act to the death of Han Solo. You're out of your mind. The gravity and the beauty of that scene decimated the shitty cgi nonsense that was Leia. The lightsabers, Snoke, etc. all looked vastly superior to Tarkin, lightsabers, etc.

And just because the characters weren't as lovable and charming, doesn't mean they weren't as well developed.

. You've made your bed now lie in it. You're claiming these heroes and villains are even remotely comparable to the characters from TFA you're out of your mind. Felicity Jones sucked ass. Both in terms of her emotional range and in terms of her action sequences. Her father was far better than she was with far less screen time.

This was a war movie, Cassian's arc really took us to the nit and grittiness of what it's like to be a Rebel fighting a war. That first scene where he does something bad was a very daring place for Lucasfilm and Disney to go with this, and I applaud them for that.

FYI K2SO was as lovable and charming as any of the new characters in TFA, save perhaps Finn, who might just edge him out for me.
[/B]

Not that daring IMO. He was also flat IMO and is greatly exaggerated.

K2 was decent but he's just the comedic relief so he isn't that significant.

Also R1 taking some time to build the story in the middle, is something TFA could have used more of tbh. I mean what was the Resistance? Were they a part of the Republic army, or a Republic secret intelligence service? What? Why wasn't the Republic more involved? And then they just have the Republic home base blown up and no one cares. It was just lazy story telling Imo. [/B]
It was boring. TFA wasn't anywhere near as boring as the first half of Rogue One. They also had to establish a new generation of characters while balancing the older ones in a newer story. Much harder act and they pulled it off.

Just saw it again. I loved it even more than the first time. It's amazing how this actually enhances ANH.

It's perhaps too early to judge, but I'm currently thinking R1 is competing with RotJ for fourth place among my SW films.

$155million opening weekend. Decent but not amazing, but then it is still ridiculously high for a December opening.

As great as this film was I don't see it having amazing legs simply because it's not very kid friendly for a Star Wars film.

Nah, that's a great opening in December. I also foresee it having good legs, not TFA good, but probably around 3x.

Ares, which do you like better: R1 or TFA?

As of now, R1. My enthusiasm for TFA has waned over the past year.

Yeah there's a lot of little nuggets to pick up on a 2nd viewing. And yeah it does get better. Planning on a 3rd viewing. But Still not had a chance to rewatch ANH though post R1.

😂

People are fumbling all over themselves for this film over the TFA. Laughable.

This isn't part of the main sequence "ilogies" so I can't rank it with them but if I were to rank it, I'd put it in last place or second to last with TFA being last place.

Nah, it is second to last: TFA had just too much damn disappointment.

So, yeah, this movie felt weak. It even felt like a very generic space shooty movie.

But the CGI faces were pretty damn good...we are ALMOST to the point of "photo-realism." Almost. You can still tell. But I am super happy about the progress. In another 5 years, we should have the tech down. We have come a long way since the Tron CGI face. 🙂

Anyway, I would give this movie a 7 out of 10...The very last minutes with you know what was quite awesome. Delicious. Not as delicious as when Yoda kicked some Dooku's ass, of course. But it was good.

Probably won't see it till around or after New Years but yeah that is the vibe I seem to be getting from the Non Rose Colored Glasses Set.

BTW Chirrut and Baze were totally gay, right?

You don't say that

Sorry.

They were slurping each others salads, right?

Speaking of which I still want a Tron 3. Badly.

I left the theater wanting to watch it again in a week or so, to see if I missed anything.

Overall a great SW film, despite a slow buildup. Love how they didn't take the safe-path and just went for it, told the story they needed, grim-in-your-eyes style.

K-S20 is the best droid of the series, imo. Sorry R2 and BB. Vader delivered and how so.

Yeah, both my children were bored through much of it, this one is definitely more adult-orientated. Which I'm personally fine with, let the kids have their Jar-Jar.

I saw it with my friend and his two children (both were younger than 8) and they were bored and flopping all around their seats waiting for it to be over.

I'd say some films are PG-13 for a reason and people under 13 shouldn't see it, in general, because they will be bored.

But that was not as bad as when I saw lots of children in Inglourious Basterds. I mean...why?

Yep. My son was mostly like that, my daughter was bored, but not as much, she did enjoy parts.

They both wanted to go, being SW fans, they just expected more of ep1 or ep6 style of film.

Who in the **** takes kids to see IG; that's just bad parenting.

Can't blame them...they are kids. If I was bored I'm pretty sure a 7 year old would be really bored.

My guess is the same parents who b*tch about having to take their son to a cub scouts award ceremony because they want to get their nails and hair done and there is not enough time to do all 3. Yes, that person exists.

Some really selfish pieces of shit parents out there who care more about themselves than their children.

Yup, sounds like I'm right to hold off on this nostalgia-milking crapfest...

Weird, honestly don't see how a SW fan could have been bored by this film, sure it took some time to get off the ground, but all together it was solid and entertaining.

Honestly can't wait to see it again in the theater, that ending scene alone is worth the price of a ticket.

I saw it with my three teenaged sons... and we all thought the first hour was boring. It was...
