You give the general audience abiltiy to tell the differance too much credit kiddo

It's not like brand names automatically sell tickets. WW has never had a movie before and the positive buzz it what's generating the interest.

True but popular characters normally generate big box offices.
Look at Suicide Squad. Joker, Harley and Batman are HUGE. And as expected the movie made big numbers despite the movies quality.

Said it before will say it again. We live in an age were Bad Movies can make Big Money.

Normally? Batman had a bunch of films that bombed. Superman Returns BOMBED. Big character names don't equate to big box office. Word of mouth does.

What Batman film bombed pre-BvS that wasn't Batman & Robin?

Batman Begins barely broke even. It didn't bomb in the same sense as B&R, but it didn't make close to a billion (Like some people think Batman should make close to a billion). Same with Batman Forever.

Yep. Heck some of the audiences still can't work out the difference between Marvel and Dc, let alone Marvel- Fox, Marvel- Sony and Marvel- Proper.

Maybe 5 years ago, but that number is dwindling pretty fast.

No one expected Batman Begins to gross anywhere close to a Billion back in 2005. And I doubt they would have greenlit a sequel with a higher budget if it "barely broke even." It must have made a decent profit.

Superman Returns however could potentially have been a Billion dollar movie.

Many things have the potential to do big numbers, but what I said wasn't wrong. Big names does not always equal big box office.

There are a lot of factors that go into account for a big blockbuster. A name is just one of them.

But how much of that was the fault of B&R?

Like the crap that happened to the Dredd movie because of Stallone's crap?

People have short term memories, anyway. I know the Joel Schumacher era left a bad taste, but that was a long time ago.

TDK made a billion for a number of reasons:

1. It was re-released twice in theaters
2. Heath Ledger's death and Joker
3. Batman
4. Strong word of mouth
5. One of the best marketing campaigns of all time

There are more, but those are the main ones.

Yeah I guess Superman Returns proves that. But the even it's gross would probably be the equivalent of $600mill in today's terms. So difficult to imagine massive names actually doing small numbers.

It's usually down to the name and the effectiveness of the marketing.

You missed out the Goodwill Batman Begins generated. Goodwill matters.

Movies are now making a billion much easier due to the massive expansion of foreign markets.

Didn't I say there were more factors? LOL
