Dont get me wrong I liked the episode. These type of episodes are fine for any other season. I just thought since there are fewer episodes this season and the show will be over completely in about 13-14 more hours, that they would change the pace a bit. Even if its the opener to set things up, etc.
😬
And yeah, Hound is one of my favs.

Lol true. And Arya's scene with the Lannister soldiers was pretty unnecessary as well, but overall I thought it was a good opener. And I'm sure the next 6 episodes will all be action packed
I think the point of that whole scene was to remind Arya, and the audience, that not every soldier in the Lannister army is some vile monster. Because she very specifically eye'd their weapons early in the scene, as though she was sizing them up to kill them. But then we hear their stories, and realise that they are just normal people who are trying to do their best under the circumstances.
As for the Sam bit, even though I also found it a bit unnecessary, I still chuckled every time he gagged at the smell of shit. But I think they added the repetition to convey the sad monotony of his life there. People got tired watching that for a few minutes? He lives that every day. And this was after he went there with all these ideas in his head of how he was going to do something important. I also think showing him caring for other people was part of the setup for the later encounter with a certain former ally of Daenerys.
Sandor Clegane once again showing why he's the best character
The show has missed this character. Glad to see he looks to be a more central part of the show this year.

Ah, I don't know. I thought it was a pretty good scene that reminded Arya of a basic truth. That being that that not every one in the camp of your enemy is a horrible person. Some of them are just simple foot soldiers that would rather be at home with their families.
Overall I liked the opener. I think they ran on a bit long with the bed pan shit but no biggie there.
Screw the Freys. The North remembers.
I love the way Tormund looks at Brienne.
Good scenes with Sansa and Jon.
I was interested to see this in one of the books Sam was looking through at the Citadel.
Perhaps a bit of foreshadowing there especially when you look at this photo of Arya on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. The same dagger is on her hip.
I guess she will acquire it this season. But from who and how? That is the Valyrian steel Cat's Paw dagger the guy tried to kill Bran with back in season one. Anyone recall who wound up with it?
