It seems to me that Brie Larsen has generated a lot of hate by people looking to dislike a woman with progressive views or who “comes out” as a liberal.
Her quotes on wrinkle in time are in regards to the plethora of “top critics” and an abundance of reviewers all being of seemingly the same ethnicity, the same gender, the same gaze, same view of film.” Film, art, and media is fluid. It’s the nature of Art. We see inside something based on us as individuals, what it means to us and how it speaks to us. With that in mind, there are always going to be projects that speak more towards the lives or history or the struggles of different groups than you or I may be a part of.
This doesn’t mean our opinion is less than or doesn’t matter - but it does mean that there are some works of art that I’m more interested in hearing the reaction or the effect it has on someone more closely tied to the material. Whether that is someone who is more familiar with it, someone who has lived it, someone who has studied it, someone who can offer me an opinion or a view that is different than my own.
Brie expressed she wants to have more inclusion when it comes to film criticism (which doesn’t mean being critical to a film.) honestly, this is a positive step. People have reacted to her with vile and venom, accusing her of wanting to deny all movie reviews by white men. This to me, is unfair and I think honestly people are being obtuse. The actress is saying she wants people who don’t have voices broadcast as loudly to have platforms to do so, ESPECIALLY if they have a unique outlook or can offer a new and differing view of art.
I’m a fan of comics and I’m a fan of film. The criticism that both Brie Larsen is getting AND the film goes beyond actual art criticism, and I’m very embarrassed by how people reacted to her (and to a Girl Power Superhero Movie in general.) the entitlement that a lot of fans display in moments like this is so off-putting. The hate is so stupid and silly, and not worth it.
Anyways, I’m looking forward to seeing the movie. More Nick Fury and Coulsen sounds great. And Ben Mendelsohn is such a great actor. I won’t say “no” to a Marvel film yet and I’m excited to see where it leads us to when it comes to Endgame.
The big reveals are
Spoiler:
Fury gets his eye scratched out by a cat
The post credits are
Spoiler:
Avengers HQ after the Infinity War finale...Cap A, Romanov, Banner and Rhodes are speaking about Fury's pager as it switches off. Romanov says she wants to speak to whoever was receiving the signal and Marvel appears behind them asking "where's Fury?"
Other big points.
Spoiler:
The Skrull are actually the good guys and the Kree the bad guys
It's not the preachy feminist movie everyone is fearing it'll be. Or at least morons who can't separate an actor from the roles they play whinged it would be.
Anyway. A solid 7/10 from me. Some pretty funny moments. Some decent action. A pretty well fleshed out origin story without that being the main focus. Larson is generally not the wooden plank the first trailer suggested and the chemistry between her and Fury is done well.

She made it a political platform. Her comments were incendiary imo.
Wonder Woman was a better movie and a far better example of a feminist icon imo.
It doesn't help that out of nowhere they went: "Captain Marvel is here. She's the MOST POWERFUL superhero ever. She's awesome. She will lead the MCU etc."
It all seemed forced and heavy-handed. No one, especially comic book fans, want to feel like they are being force-fed an agenda.
Like I said, she made it political. Now it is political, and there are pros and cons with that. I understand what you're saying, and some of it is definitely overblown but some of its not.
Did you listen to her interview discussing lifting Mjolnir or beating up Thanos? I don't know if she has poor sarcasm or is just genuinely that conceded but like SMH.

So this is a fake quote?“I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work about A Wrinkle in Time,” "It wasn’t made for him! I want to know what it meant to women of colour, biracial women, to teen women of colour.”
See cuz if your claim is that this quote is real, but what she meant was merely "some films have specific audiences in mind" then the issue there is there are ways to say that without sounding like an obnoxious kunt. Brie, for whatever reason, chose to go the other route.
If you replaced 40-year-old white dude with 20-year-old black woman, Brie Larson would be first in line claiming it was racist and sexist.
Stuff like this really irritates me because it reveals a shocking lack of awareness and groupthink.
Oh ffs just go enjoy the movie. People really need to lighten the **** up about this social justice nonsense. Taking her comments out of context and pretending she is the enemy is looney tunes shit. If you enjoy films of this genre go see it you do not need to align your views with the actors starring in them.
I think Tom Cruise is a dick but he is a great actor and I separate my personal views when seeing a film. People really are overly emotional these days.
Enjoyed the Movie. Better than I thought it would be based on the trailers.
Didnt think I would like Carol's portrayal by Larsen, but i thought she was good.
Dont care for the politics surrounding this movie, so I went in just wanting to see a good movie. Didnt feel like any agenda was being pushed in my face at any time during the movie.
I actually thought it was solid. Fury and Danvers had good chemistry, Talos was really funny, and it was cool to see her in action. Definitely nowhere near as agenda pushing as the neckbeards have claimed, and while it started off slow it was awesome to see her in binary
My only real issue was Larsen was kind of wooden in her delivery
7.5/10 IMO
