Yes. They were saved by Rey. But it was never explained how she saved them. Odd as hell...it's a plothole but and intentional plot hole.
Regarding the Luke tossing the lightsaber thing, to be fair, throwing/tossing it right in front of Palpatine (just after defeating Vader) was pretty stupid too, especially after Yoda warned him not to underestimate the powers of the Emperor... Still a great scene where we got to see force lightning for the first time, but Luke putting himself in that defenseless position was still kinda dumb. Turn off the lightsaber during the moment so as to show he’s not gonna kill his father, yeah, but don’t toss it away.
