Fantastic audience buzz for #Aquaman in the US from Amazon Prime showings SAT night. China total looks to hit about $190M in first 10 days. Global #boxoffice may get near $700M thru New Year's Day with solid JAN after that. Global weekend report coming.

Trending on Twitter for several hours. This could break out in North America.

My theater had a good reaction to it.

Surprisingly the Shazam trailer got a good reaction as well. I heard a lot of laughs during it. And my wife who rarely goes to comic based movies with me said that it looked good.

Seeing this in an hour. But more looking forward to Into the Spider Verse which Im watching tonight.

Obviously. Hes also paid me to leave a good review later.

But Cant believe I didnt know Bumblebee was out here!

I would have watched that first.

Was cool.

It was trying to be epic, ended up being decent but with possibly the best world building of any superhero film. But appreciated it going for the epic fantasy adventure type of film.

Also the budget is undisclosed right now, but looked very expensive.

As for where it ranks amongst the DCEU. In many ways It was more entertaining than Wonder Woman (much better villains and action), but Wonder Woman flowed better and was the better directed film. So id place this 2nd.

A lot of parts in AM felt and were rushed. They tried to squeeze in as much as they could at the expense of it feeling rushed in some parts. Making those parts lack in substance.

Should I shell out the extra cash for IMAX/3-D? I hear it's probably going to get the Oscar for special effects.

Yes, go for the biggest screen you can.

I didnt watch it in IMAX, but im guessing yeah that would be better, as its a special effects spectacle.

The visuals in this were much better than Justice League.

My DCEU rankings:

Aquaman
Wonder Woman
Justice League
Man of Steel
Suicide Squad
Batman v Superman

Aquaman
Wonder Woman
MOS
BVS UE
JL
BVS
SS

Dang, I'm hyped.

Impressive stats for Aquaman this weekend. 2nd best hold for a SH movie in China.

You know I would rate the Ultimate Edition higher as it was a much better flowing movie. I forgot about that version.

IMO having better antagonists and a 3rd act that sticks the landing would give Aquaman some added points.

Though I also agree that WW was better directed. Also Chris Pine played a better supporting character than Amber Heard acting wise.

Watched the movie, gotta say not bat. A solid 7.5-8/10 for me.

The GOOD: fights/action scenes were solid, good new take on the usual epic army battle scene (would have been the best one had they slowed it down a bit to give time for the scenes to give the audience time to absorb the grandiose of the battles), giant monsters, decent (albeit overused CGI), great world building and it was pretty respectful of the source material (a bit too fanservice-y tho). Great costumes and Mera was hot.

The BAD: Cheesy lines, mediocre to bad acting, rushed thru a lot of scenes (like the epic army battle scene), plot was overused, cliche, predictable and had no depth and it was a little too fanservice-y.

Overall, the strengths more than compensated for its weaknesses. This movie did what it set out to do: be a fun, mindless action flick with gorgeous scenes and ppl battling it and giving everyone a feelgood ending. Essentially none of the usual Hollywood snootyness, snobiness and pretentiousness and all about giving the audience what they want.

7.5-8

Yeah Im with you on those points. I think I place Wonder Woman above Aquaman overall, but im not entirely sure.

The 2 of them are defo the best made DCEU films.

Aquaman confirmed best DC movie of all time.

I feel that WB finally stumbled on the right formula: Give ppl what they want. Don’t be artsy or pretentious, don’t be arrogant (and put your own original “spin” on it). The source material is solid, don’t be so arrogant as to think you (the director, the writer or the studio) can do better by rebuilding it in your image and just build on it and from it. Don’t overpoliticize it and just tell a story. And most of all: be fun.

If they keep this up, they might still save the DCEU just yet.
