State of the Forum: Aug. 2016

You know, for once, Carthage is spot on. I'm not commenting on the people he chose to talk about, but honestly the issue with this forum is how personally people take each character's strength.

Beni will never concede on Ahsoka because he thinks he has to keep some movement going.

AP will never concede on Exile/Kun because she thinks she has to keep some movement going.

Ant will never concede on Revan because he thinks he has to keep some movement going.

I'm not going to pretend like we all don't do it to some extent, but how is anyone supposed to enjoy an actual debate when no one will ever admit defeat?

I think one way of sorting it out is to finally launch the Kaggath we've been wanting to do, but I genuinely do not have the time if I'm doing a CaV vs DMB or Beni...

This has never not been the case.

For the past year or so, multiple users have complained about a board-wide diminishing quality of debates, a steady rise in trolling and shitposting, an ever-increasing sensitivity and hostility to certain viewpoints, and the pervasive cloud of partisanship and double standards.

So what is the state of the forum in your mind? And if these concerns are valid, how should we address them?

Discuss.

So... same old, same old?

I'm not saying otherwise.

The best debates you get are when people aren't invested enough in the lore to be that biased, that'll never happen on a site like KMC.

The best debate ever was Revan vs Zannah where I drove Ant to insanity and a mental breakdown at the tender age of 10.

So I disagree.

SWTOR and ComicVine genuinely have far superior debates, in my opinion. Convincing a base who genuinely don't know about every tiny detail of a character is going to yield better results than trying to convince a group of people who are so deep into the lore they already have their minds made up.

Case in point, me and DMB picked two relatively obscure characters from polar opposite eras for a debate, and I don't think one onlooker hadn't already made their mind up from the time the debate started.

Say what you want about the opinions of the masses on SWTOR/CV, they make debate more conclusive, less toxic and more clear. KMC's just a cesspool of the same people who are too tight-nit of a community to ever change each other's minds.

Let me tell you all what's wrong with this board.

Ah well then yeah.

SWTOR is a wasteland - even more than this shitfest.

I think general decrease in traffic plays a role.

Also there's a tendency for people to insert a joke in *every* debate, even completely off-topic (i.e. 'Bane Loses' in treads without Bane). Unwillingness to drop jokes and get to serious talk too.

bane dies*

I concede that Ahsoka would be defeated by Vader, you lose. 🙂

By making your opponents bleed. ✅

I think organised debates on KMC would be an interesting thing to do, but people are probably too biased and hostile to make it work.

Battlezones. Official debates in which two debaters agree on judges to determine the winner.

mmm

I didn't comment on anyone he talked about, I commented on friends two friends and a relatively hard-skinned individual who I knew wouldn't care about being called out.

Not under the Lord Gideon's reign.

Look let's be honest, there's too much bullshit and drama for a debate between two rivals to ever be taken seriously.

For example, if I were to debate DMB, it would devolve to an insult war. Same for Syn vs Ant. Etc etc.

Actually, every thread devolves into an insult war because certain people feel their movement will change anything. It won't

Which sucks, because I'm certainly in debating but I either take a long af time or don't give a single damn because people on here take everything so damn personally lol

Still trying to figure out why you guys take shit so serious here.

I like you all in varying degrees to a certain extent.
