When I was younger, SW debating was srs business and there was a high degree of emotional investment in the discussions and the outcomes.
I guess as I got older and ruled in the name of His Imperial Majestyhumbly enjoyed a measure of success, I didn't have to fight as hard. And then the debates started to get boring and I got lazier and didn't want to produce WOT arguments anymore, except for like Janus, who was always fun to cross swords with.
But even in 2012-2014ish, I remember having lengthy debates. But I also started to care more about the sheer banter.
It is the same inevitable result of years doing anything you passionately love. You start to care less as you get the feeling you've heard every single argument for and against said characters. People put less and less effort in time as their passion begins to fizzle. It will come back in shorter bursts but you'll never have the fire you once had when this was something new. It's just the way it goes.
The only person who never stops AND NEVER RELENTS. Feeds off responses like herpes feeds off reckless youth.

For the past year or so, multiple users have complained about a board-wide diminishing quality of debates, a steady rise in trolling and shitposting, an ever-increasing sensitivity and hostility to certain viewpoints, and the pervasive cloud of partisanship and double standards.
For those of us who've been around long enough to remember, the alleged "cause" of the Antediluvian's creation was to combat the infestation of trolls and shitty debaters that had taken over the board... and that was in 2005.

But it appears that they pulled a "Trump" and completely closed the borders and allegedly ridiculed everyone who disagreed with them.

Forum members like DMB, Legend, Neph and Ancientpower routinely hyperbolize, blow feats out of proportion, and wank their characters to the point that having a debate is impossible. They aren't out to have a discussion and compare showings against other forum members, they're out to broadcast their worship and shut down other points of view. Which is why you get mass reporting sprees from them and trying to ban others who don't share their points of view

And if these concerns are valid, how should we address them?

I gave a detailed response. You either ignored it or did not bother to respond in kind.
This is how debating culture dies.
Another factor is the tendency to develop grudges against each other and not able to move forward.

How do we combat this scourge and return the board to its glory days, such as they were when Gideon and Lightsnake ruled in the Emperor's name?
BTW, your post on FB the other day about your white neighbors cracked me the f up.
This forum is dead because of the admin that abandoned it.
I've read in "News and Questions" he made "co-admin" position for a guy, wow, such a big change. Then he disappeared again for 2 years, and the great "Co-Admin" position is just a title with normal moderator rights.
Too bad nobody that actually CARES won't buy this site from this "Raz". I don't think he remembers about this site.
