The state of the forums is that debates don't happen here anymore. 9/10 retorts from anyone who doesn't agree contain "retarded", "slow", "idiotic", "pathetic", or some other personal and unfounded insult as part of their opening salvo, and worse many of them contain no canonical truths or real attempt to counter what's been posted. There were some intense debates before, but they generally at least took a while to devolve into name calling if they did, and often they managed to get back on track.
Now it's just a bunch of "my opinion is right, yours is wrong, and I'm going to take every opportunity that I can to insult you via pics, flaming, trolling, and anything else that I can." It's unfortunately pretty much the same in the general section. The movie discussion and vs areas are pretty much the only active forums that haven't so fully collapsed on themselves.

Well, that's the problem, but it's not the source of the problem. The source of the problem is that no one wants to debate anymore, because every argument that comes up these days has already been done past the point of death. There isn't anything new to bring to the table, because there's no new content coming out anymore, and continuing to rehash the same points repeatedly is tiresome, not fun. Even when we do, there's rarely anything interesting brought to the discussion, it's just a cluster**** of bitter pissing contests over arguments that will never be resolved. That's why most people here aren't particularly inclined to take the time go through the motions every time some new greenie shows up spouting the same BS that we've countered a thousand times in the past. Sorry? It's not going to change, though.

Then why even bother? I mean, if that's what gives someone his or her jollies I guess that's what works for them, but I really don't see the point for someone who sees it as nothing worth discussing. If it's not worth discussing or debating to someone then just go elsewhere. The flaming, trolling, and name calling is childish.
