Obi-Wan kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn vs Darth Traya and The Exile

Battle takes place on Mustafar. All at their peaks.

1. Sabers

2. Force

3. All-Out

Team 1 take Sabers, Team 2 takes Force and All out

Team 1 wins in sabers, but in Force and all out Traya and Meetra win fairly easily.

Team 1 taking sabers? Qui-Gon looks the weakest here to me.

Qui-Gon has Traya beat in sabers tbh, in terms of pure skill anyway. But Traya has that triple wielding with the Force stuff that she does. But in terms of just skill Jinn and Kenobi have this in sabers.

Traya besting Atton in a "short, quick, brutal duel" is particularly impressive, since LS Atton alone can beat Sion whilst "drowned in the dark side", and Traya can manhandle the more powerful DS Atton (who wouldn't be hindered by the Trayus Core nexus and would rather be enjoying it alongside Traya).

Qui-Gon doesn't have anything on par with that.

When did Traya beat Atton in a duel? Was that in TSLRCM or mentioned in a sourcebook?

The K2 dialogue files. The scene's pretty incomplete in terms of restoration, even in TSLRCM.

So it never happened then?

Ah, ok.

None of TSLRCM is canon, lol. I'm not discussing what's canon, only what's within the capabilities of a particular character. As long as we're talking about the same medium where there is no inconsistency of power levels for the character we're talking about, I'll accept it. Whether or not it happens is besides the point, we're not making a list of canonical events. We're only interested in what could happen, pertaining to the character's power levels. Which, of course, don't change, since this material was all written by the same authors and was removed purely because of time constraints.

mmm

Fair points. I'm merely playing guesswork with what a "Prime Jinn" is capable of, though TBH I can see Team 2 taking sabers too, especially if we're only judging on actualised, displayed feats.

I don't know what people take this "Prime Qui-Gon" thing overboard for. The only thing I recall him having lost by TPM is stamina, not skill. Which makes no sense, anyway, since you never lose skill from aging (in fact, you gain it, over time). Unless Qui-Gon was in a twenty-year period of lightsaber disuse, his skills wouldn't atrophy, only his stamina would. And I believe that's the only thing that is mentioned in the novel when it talks about him being "past his prime".

Only by actualized feats? Holistic portrayals would support team 2 even more, lmfao.

Based on that I think Team 2 might have sabers as well now.

Jinn had to entirely modify his style to make up for his atrocious stamina, lol.

The thing is, Ataru's entire usage is based on you having insane speed and insane stamina. If you don't have a great stamina, you have to fight conservatively with none of the brilliance of a youthful Ataru master, it can be quite a dreadful form of your physicals aren't up to scratch.

It never made sense that Qui-Gon's age was such a big deal, but given how much it's discussed you can't really ignore it. And it's probably far more of a limiting factor than skill would have been a decade earlier, considering he'd probably come relatively close to his skill cap.

👆

Modified his style? Qui-Gon was still using power blows, lol, he just couldn't use as much of it. He just relied more on experience instead of sheer power.

Regardless, that doesn't make up for Traya's blatant superiority over him as a swordsman, lol.

Yes, using the only part of his style that he could actually feasibly fight with for protracted amount of time is totally not "modifying his style". 🙄

But what are you basing that off, other than feats from a past-prime Qui-Gon? We don't know what he'd be capable of, really, or whether he'd be capable of performing similar feats to her.

I don't think one can really argue who's be superior, which is why I said based off feats Team 2 would take sabers...

Where do you place Traya as a swordsman anyway, tbh?
