Shazam! (2019)

Saw this tonight. In all honesty it doesn't deserve the 90+ review scores. The dynamic between Levi and the kids is good and has good dialogue but mostly everything else falls flat. The 7 sins demons CGI is poor. The disjoin between Strong's character and everyone else is jarring. The plot of Billy trying to find his mother is pointless even though it's point is obvious. Some of the action towards the end is pretty decent. They try and shoehorn in too many references to the rest of the DCU it's clear they think the audience are too dumb to know it links in. Even worse when

Strange when you think about - since the first iconic Superman movie in 1978, how every film since has been plagued by behind the scenes drama that compromised the onscreen product (Superman 2-4), or perception problems by the buying public and critics (Superman Returns, all of the DCEU appearances.) Does Shazam just come out of obscurity and take Superman's crown - or at the very least, shares it with Wonder Woman?

This movie is better than most of the Marvel movies and I never would have thought that. Who would have thought WB would have made a better Wonder Woman and Shazam movie than Disney did with Thor?

WB is finally getting their stride.

With Snyder gone DC will show what they can really do. Hopefully Superman can now finally get a well received film.

If WB wins the fight for Bad Robot I expect them to make an offer to have JJ direct a Superman film.

I keep on telling you guys; it's not about the actual characters. A character doesn't necessarily make a box office hit. Venom did more than most MCU movies, for crying out loud.
