Travolta is hit/miss for me, he can do a good role, but he has a lot of shit under his belt.
Costner's a good actor, despite having very limited character range, he almost always acts the same.
If you've not seen A Perfect World (1993), fix that asap. Both a very good movie and one of Costner's best roles, imo

I thought it was different enough.Just comparing it to Shazam, thats 2 very different characters and back stories for characters who have the same power.
As nice as the Superman tease was in the credits, I'd like to know how Waller suddenly became trusting of him. We knew Cavill was coming back after the leaks, but I don't think his Superman has much room to talk to Adam when it comes to morals and such. In Man of Steel he certainly got more of Metropolis destroyed and people killed than Black Adam killed and destroyed some things in Kahndaq.
Cavillman is more developed now I assume while Dwayne Adam is still new to this, but the two should be able to relate, considering. Nonetheless, we do have Dwayne to thank for Cavill coming back as it turns out, and I thank him more for that than I do for the Black Adam film as a whole. Again though, hopefully his Adam will have some better writing under Gunn or someone later.

He he actually said something akin to “how can you guys develop the DC Universe of Heroes without its greatest hero?!”
Just for that im sure no one will mind Black Adam being Almost on par with Caville Supes in a battle. But still just a little below (turns out Rock wont be a cry baby about losing to him).
You know who I was thinking actually would have been a good fit to make Black Adam? Zack Snyder. An MOS type tone would have worked well for this character IMO. He was just out of his depth and the completely wrong fit for BvS and JL.
I just came back from seeing this. It has some virtues, but it's a near miss.
I would think higher of it, if it wasn't just recycling so many things and character types already seen in so many Marvel films. Plus a lumpy narrative, the annoying kid Amon (recycling Freddy Freeman's personality from Shazam!) an even more annoying Hawkman (whom they are trying to into some kind of Iron Man, but making him an a##hole minus the charm), turning Atom Smasher into yet another Peter Parker type, copying the grand estate and jet from the X-Men, Pierce Brosnan copying everything Dr. Strange has already done in a movie...
And Cyclone?...She made so little an impression, it's like she wasn't there at all.
Most annoying at all, is the idea that the Justice Society have always been there. This is the part of the narrative shortcuts to world building DC & Warners have been guilty of for years, now. Remember back in Man Of Steel, when Perry White talked about how afraid people would be if someone like Superman was around? Yet it turns out you've had powerful metahumans in your midst this whole time? I actually thought they would get around this by making this a separate Earth, but apparently that's not the case.
They think they just have to throw in some colourful looking people in costumes, add a mountain of CGI and people will like it. Totally skipping the work Marvel and the MCU does in properly introducing characters and getting us to like them as people, not just symbols.
Best parts include Dwayne Johnson sincere work in the title role, and the strong message about American imperialistic interventions in countries that don't ask for their help.
Dr Fate debuted before Doctor Strange in the comics, but with how long Benedict Cumberbatch's Strange has been around, I'm not sure how much Brosnan's Dr Fate could've stood out apart from him, even with better writing. The two characters are pretty similar in power set are they not?
Still, you pretty much explained what I meant when I said this film didn't really feel like anything you hadn't seen before. I noticed that too about Atom Smasher and the grand estate & jet being pretty much taken from X-Men. I share much of your other criticisms too, despite having liked other parts about the film.
@ Darth Thor: I guess that could've worked, yeah.
The movie was a spectacle for the eyes, that's for sure. The moral messages were all over the place. Yeah Heroes don't kill now give up or die. No extra legal killings now come with us while we lock you up forever Without a trial or any kind of oversight or process. We don't kill but if you leave your country we will kill you.
It's like they weren't even trying.
Ignoring all of that b******* it's a nice popcorn movie. Rock was really good. I liked the whole Terminator and young John Connor dynamic, although I don't really like how casual they were about Adam slaughtering people in front of the kid. Arnold never actually murdered anybody around the kids as opposed to rock ripping them apart left and right. Even if that kid grew up in a war zone pretty sure he should be traumatized.
About a 60 percent drop in its second weekend isn't that bad. But considering it wasn't a really huge opening weekend either means a smaller take. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives in less than two weeks, and that likely means the tap gets turned off for Black Adam.

Honestly, felt this film was just average; not really anything you hadn't seen before. Much as I like Dwayne Johnson and his charisma too, would've preferred a Black Adam with the hair and pointy ears the more I thought about it after, but I guess they didn't want to CG the Rock for that stuff. The 90's skateboard kid I was more so laughing at how he was carrying the plot along and how tropeish he was than I was annoyed with him, but can see how he was a painful distraction for others. Also, I thought Hawkman's nth metal mace disrupted magic, or is that only for certain continuities? With that in mind though, would've thought he'd be able to break through Fate's magic wall with ease during the last act. Regardless, I may have been expecting a bit much from Fate as a longtime fan of Pierce Brosnan, but I too was let down by him here.
Nth disrupting magic is only a DCAU thing. It works that way in animation not comics. In comics Nth has an ability to control the 4 forces. Gravity, electromagnetic, strong and weak Nuclear forces. Because of that he can absorb and redirect energy (like it did BA's lightning in the film). It's ability to absorb energy also allows the wearer protection from heat or cold. The Nuclear force thing is what grants healing.
So what we got was accurate and Nu52 (in which it reshapes to the wearers will - like when it changed from mace to axe etc)
BA had some character development and backstory, the others had almost none.
We actually got almost all of both Atom Smasher and Cyclones backstory from the comics. Al innthe comics is the God son not grandson of the original Atom who tried to join the JSA to honour him in Infinity Inc. They just chamged it to grandson inheriting Atom (now called original Atom Smasher) powers instead of his granddad who's radiation infected Atom giving him his super strengrh.
Cyclone was kidnapped by TO morrow (the guybwho made the android red tornado) and infected with nanobots that gave her the same cyclonic powers as his Android. The only backstory they didn't cover was that her grandmother dressed up a a mystery woman with a saucepan on her head called Red Tornado and that's where he got the name for the Android from. Her backstory was covered on screen. The only part not covered was who did it to her.
This Hawkman being directly out of one of the comic series is overall irrelevant if it doesn’t work very well on screen. He came off as not very interesting. Maybe they could have picked a more interesting version from another comic series, or cut 5-6 mins of him being angry and making angry faces to flesh his character out more.
Hawkman isn't and never has been a very interesting character (unless your Mungi). I've been a JSA fan for decades and I've NEVER like HM. He's literally the only JSA member who was a part of EVERY JSA comic story from inception until last days of the JSA. He was the chairman of the team from 1942 up until 1986 (Last Days). You literally can't have a JSA featured in and media that doesn't have HM it just wouldn't be a JSA. The version they used from the Johns Goyer run was literally the most interesting version ever depicted in the comics. It was also the version that had a lot of friction specifically with Black Adam so made sense. Ot was literally the Hawkman I'd expect and want to see in a Black Adam movie as a JSA fan.
Who cares? I’m not reading a comic when I went to see BA, I was watching a movie and Dr. Fate was grossly underused, when he should have been the one giving BA pause. Except he was just kinda there, even in his big fight it was a whole lot of meh.
What movie did you watch?
He WAS then one giving BA pause. He was the only none affecting him. Is Ankh blast hirt him, his clone nlows rocked him. He was the only one who could restrain him for any period of note. I'd like to know if you thought Captian Marvel was underused in IW or End Game. What about Superman in JL? Fate got used a hellbof a lot more than Carol Danvers and every hit as much as Supes and he WAS ONLY A SUPPORT CHARACTER.
Let's just remember for a minute that Dr Fate is powered by Nabu a single lord of order with the amulet of Anubis (linked to the powernof a lord of chaos). BA is transformed by the wizard Shazam whonis also a Lord of order who's power comes from seven lords of order. Comic Fate can call on the powernof more lords with spells but this takes time which wouldn't help himvs BA.
The only things I could have asked for in the film was to have covered the history that HM, and Fatr had with Ba back in ancient Kandaq from pre Flashpoint. Also to have covered the stuggle Kent has with Nabu possessing him (this could have been covered easily enough). The only problem with the ancient back story is if they did I would have had either an extra half an hour movie (to cover these intricate relationships in detail) or have had a lot less action. In which case I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. Fate is about my 4th favorite comic character (1. Dark Nebula - my Avatar, 2/3 Alan Scot/Hellstrom - it rotates, 4. Dr Fate. I couldn't have wanted more from fav in his first cinematic outing.

Yup. Making Hawkman the lead in Jsa was pretty stupid wish he died...
It's because they have zero idea how to do anything but big bad punchy punchy bang bang fight scenes. Because when they try to do anything else they end up with complete crap like Lex Luthor and whatever Ewan Mcgregor's character's name was in Birds of Prey. Compare them to Zemo in Civil War who is one of the MCU's best antagonists despite having no powers whatsoever.

Srs 😮 ? this version of Hawkman is one of the best live action superheroes I've ever seen. He's a paragon of righteous justice and tactical competence, his powers are so awesome that even Iron Man can't phuck with him, and he's just an all around likeable guy with some funny quips. Honestly he's probably the best black superhero I may have ever seen in a live action film, and unlike Black Panther or Falcon, not once does his race interfere with his inherent heroism to protect all of humanity. He's literally Captain America, Black Panther, Iron Man, and Falcon rolled into one, a superhero who could inspire anyone of any race, gender, or religion. He's literally the Perfect Cape Superhero besides Clark Kent and Steve Rogers themselves, and Aldis Hodge (ETERNAL AGE OF THE GEEK BABY!!!! LUCILLE IS RIDING WITH GREAT PRIDE!!!!) and Dwayne Johnson did a HD1080px TURBO-MEGA-APEX UNSURPASSABLY-ULTRA OMNIEXTREME job of crafting his character imo
And he's not even the main character or most powerful character in the film
😄
