Hajime no Ippo

But in Kimura's case, he never once defended him as a boxer. Hell, he's never much defended anyone, and always had a front as THE *******.

But while Sendou was criticising him, and Miyata was locked in blind hope, the only time Mashiba got irritated was against them for not recognizing something was the matter. Towards Ippo, nothing but concern.

The concern is what's ooc, imo. Never seen him openly care about anybody except his sister.

Well, Mashiba actually lost to Ippo (his only profesional loss?), so it's not exactly the same as Kimura but could come from a similar angle.

Another unpleasent thought occur's:

Pretty heavy forshadowing on a Takamura fall.. None of the comedy shenanigan's, heavy emphasis on being in a rush and the hubris of taking this lightly.

This could be an all around disaster for the Kamogawa gym. One punch drunk boxer, and the other one blind in one eye.

Nah, Takamura wins his match in 1205. Oneshots the dude. He then publicly mocks Ippo about his loss while getting boo'd by the crowd. 😂

Needless to say, I think having Ippo lose like this after 1200 chapters is very bad writing. It would have made more sense for him to have lost to Sawamura.

With all the scaled down issues due to illness, here's hoping Mori isn't really "broken" and basically projecting the end of his career (Or worse)

Mori is Ippo. He's unable to cross the line (i.e. not let Ippo take on the world, despite 1200 chapters), he's punch-drunk (or rather author drunk, given that he's done nothing but abuse and humiliate the title character for nearly 200 chapters now, 300 if we count the Woli fight) and he's broken (inability to progress any major character's arc in any meaningful way in for hundreds of chapters; Ippo's three pacific champion fights were a waste of time and accomplished absolutely nothing).

Translated 1205 for anyone curious. https://imgur.com/a/bU8V6#hovpL6K

AuraAngel said HSDK fell apart in the later half, but it sure looks a lot better compared to this.

I mean, Kenichi basically is Ippo. Almost wondering if the author specifically made his own version because he was so frustrated with Mori.

Kenichi and his entire supporting cast are indestructible in the latter half of the series, so unequaled in strength are they that Takamura would be humbled. It backpedals on any moral dilemmas and Kenichi’s last fight was so forgettable that I could not tell you the guys name. The bad guys get away cause there really isn’t anyway to punish them. In a series wherein a kid uses martial arts to gain more confidence and friends, the ending ultimately reflects that it is a shallow story about becoming so strong that the rest of the world are as ants and all the big tiddy ******* want your cock.

Basically it’s a shittier Dragonball. Despite what the manga tells you about Kenichi’s lack of talent the little bastard is still mastering 4-5 martial arts and proving himself to be superior in some instances than solo practitioners.

I used to think the same about Kenichi's supposed lack of talent. Rubbish, I said!

Then I read Shigure's one shot, where she turns a five year old girl into a ninja, and it dawned on me if she represents baseline talent, maybe Kenichi really does lack it. 😂

So who's the most tragic character in Hajime no Ippo?

For my money, I think Date takes the prize. While Ippo never really wanted the world, and Aoki and Kimura never really expected to amount to much, Date both wanted it, bad, and nearly had it all. He was literally one heartbeat away from cutting Ricardo Martinez down, if not for the bad break of his elbow getting in the way.

Think about how many times Miyata or Ippo would have lost, if not for that one critical punch. Date HAD it. I wish he did get it, more then anything else I wish turned out different.

Hammer Nao. At least Date is married, had a succesful boxing run and has a career as a trainer.

Even if he

Spoiler:
utterly sucks as a trainer
. He'd still fare better than
Spoiler:
Kamogawa were he train Ippo for his comeback though
.

Massive spoilers:

Ippo's retirement is confirmed in chapter 1209.

End of series?

Or start of time skip?

I suspect they're gonna do a timeskip and Ippo is gonna make a comeback like Date. Gonzalez will beat Martinez and maybe Ippo will rematch Gonzalez after coming out of retirement, except win.

I'm filling in the slow Ippo updates with Slam Dunk.

Hanamichi totally reminds me of Sendou.

But I guess you can say that about a lot of protagonist's in the genre. In another manga, Sendou would have been the main character.

Speaking of alternate mangas, have you ever read One Piece, Hunter x Hunter or Berserk?

Up to date on Berserk, read One Piece up to the part with the giant rock thing, and read HxH many years ago up to Kirapika murdering Uvo and kidnapping the Spider leader.

Or maybe a bit past that, it's been awhile. I forget when video game island happened, and the Biscuit training..

They referenced Ashira No Joe!

Interesting. Does that mean this happens in the same universe?

Anyways, as of the latest from the Crappy group, they're implying Ippo's healthy with the art drawing. I really hope he doesn't make a comeback, otherwise all the drama up to now is a waste..

If you're going to turn the story into giving up on dreams, then go all the way. TBH, so far that aspect is being told pretty well.. It doesn't make up for years of Dempsey hype, but it's still pretty fresh seeing Ippo stick to his guns and deal with the consequences of that decision.

Why does Mori hate Ippo?
