Hajime no Ippo

That's just not Ippo.

Like, I value humility. But if Takamura just started being a little bit humble I'd think something was very very wrong with him lol.

Ippo's flaws are not his arrogance but rather the increasingly obvious fact that he has no motivation for the world title itself. He mostly does what he does to make his surrogate father figure happy.

Am not all that impressed by Woli other than his "potential." Would be reall sweet for him to be an opponent for Itagaki down the line. For now, however, Vorg annihilates him if he's serious. You'll see why during his upcoming fight.

I won't lie, I felt like fist pumping after Itagaki's fight.

That was genius. And under a minute, in the first round!

As much as the writing tries to pass off Imai as an inferior Ippo ("He doesn't rotate as much!"😉, he's really looking more like a "Here's Ippo without the PIS/CIS".

Hajime No Imai would probably be over by about 30 chapters, win or lose against Martinez... 😂

If Bison couldn't stop Takamura, nothing will.

Was Mori trolling the fans with that left swing? Is Takamura blind in his right eye or not?

We don’t know. We’ll probably never know lol.

Mori must be having fun with that. 😂

The Miyata funk doesn't make all that much sense. Sendou's wrong, he doesn't need to wait on Ippo climbing back up. Ippo just lost, so an opbf shot would be a god send. No way Kamogawa would turn it down at this point.

Not sure where this Sendou thing is leading up to.

If it's so Sendou gets destroyed and Ippo has to avenge him, that's kind of dumb when Ippo needs to avenge himself (And why would Gonzalez even want a rematch?)

Maybe Ippo never gets payback? Same way he never beat Date, it could go the same way here. Only, instead of Martinez beating the crap out of him again, this time Sendou does it.

And then the obvious thing is either he gets crushed by Ricardo in turn, or he provides an easy path for Ippo to his own world title shot by issuing a challenge to his old rival. Sendou is the kind of guy to do such a thing, on the basis that he needs to prove to himself he really did surpass Ippo, and it wasn't a fluke/result of the match up swinging in his favor.

Otooh, Miyata isn't going away before settling up, so maybe he'll factor into the world title scene? Somehow?

Say, by insisting as the opbf champ, he has priority over Sendou, and the two hash it out?

I don't know, just spitballing on where this goes from here.

For the longest time, I was thinking that Sendo would beat Gonzalez, fight Martinez, die in the ring after giving him one hell of a fight and being the catalyst that finally triggers the SSJ2 power up Ippo has been needing for hundreds of chapters now. There, we would finally see the return of Ippo prime (ippo that beat karasawa). Ippo would then rematch Gonzalez, win in two rounds and then fight Martinez himself only to KO him in the 12th round at the last minute despite being way behind on points. At this point, Ippo would have avenged both Date and Sendo. Now having the WBA belt, we'd then get a world title fight from Miyata where he'd win the WBC belt. With both having featherweight champion belts, the final fight of the manga would be a featherweight unification match in which Ippo and Miyata finally settle the score that started in the Kamogawa boxing gym. 8 rounds of glorious technical fighting from both only to fade to black after a final panel of Miyata using red lightning and Ippo using the free form Dempsey.

Timeskip to 20 years later with us having no idea who won, an epilogue wrapping up all loose ends and a shot of a young man looking eerily similar to Miyata approaching an older Ippo at the fishing docks and asking him what it means to be strong. Final shot is of an aged Ippo giving a wise and knowing smile and the manga ends.

Do you still feel that way?

Wonder if Mori has it in him that have Ippo seal the evolved Dempsy, and save it as an opening bid "all or nothing" gambit against Martinez. And not only have it beat him, but beat him so badly it ends his career (With plenty of "if he had a chance to adapt, it would be a non fight" sprinkled in.) And do it all at the bell.

Then we're left with a Miyata who's seen his best, and can prepare for it.

Hmm, what if a total swerve is pulled.

Ippo beats Martinez before Gonzalez, with the evolved Dempsey. And Alfredo wants revenge for stealing his prize.

Essentially, Ippo becomes to Gonzalez what Martinez was to Ippo for trashing Date. (Maybe we even get a "baton pass" moment between the two.)

What's with the new guy? Junior featherweight who could potentially stomp both Ippo and Miyata?

Why even introduce a guy like that. Ippo has enough challenges already.. I really hope Mori didn't create him as the guy to unseat Martinez after Ippo fails and quits boxing..

Lol that guy.

Mori is broken.

He is! 😱

"You really lost to that."

How much does Mori hate his main character? Even Toriyama throws Vegeta a bone every now and again.

1202: Did not see that coming.

Either Mori is wrapping this up, or he has one hell of a swerve up his sleeve.

Ippo future kid taking up the mantle or this round was all in Ippo head?

If it's all in his head, that would be troll of the year.

Assuming this really does stick, I give Mori some credit for skirting Shonen conventions. Not exactly happy with the outcome, but no one can say it was out of nowhere or wasn't forshadowed forever..

Guess it's on to another manga where the hero wins while I wait to see what happens here. Hmm, maybe... Ashita no Joe? That inspired Ippo, I hear.

I have a good feeling about this one. I bet the main character conquers the world, and gets a happy ending. 👆

I like how everything was presented and introduced, oddly enough I don't find it nearly as tragic as I think I would. My guess is that this will happen:

Ippo will start making excuses about his defeat, he'll realize that he actually cares about winning and being a respected sportsman. I believe that without that lose, Ippo would've retired over that last win, but that just losing like that will feel unacceptable.

So philosophically retire and come back reborn, like Kimura?

Btw, Mashiba's behavior only added to the "something not right" vibe. He was acting way out of character, had no problem admitting his comeback punch's are scary without getting pissed, and almost seemed to pity Ippo..

Mashiba stealthly wants Ippo to be a good boxer so his record looks cleaner. Just remember how pissed he gets with Kimura's murky fights.
