One was created as a racist slur; one was not.

"N****r" was not created as a racial slur. As I pointed out, it originally meant, "an ignorant person." White slave owners noted its similarity to the French and Spanish terms for "black," and used it as an insult for African slaves, as a way to call them, "dumb."

And in the case of this shirt fiasco, one wasn't even used as a racist slur. People just took a photo out of context and claimed it was racist, because why the hell not.

"Monkey," has been historically used as a racial slur for black people. The term is not racist in of itself, but when used in the context of black people, or directed at a black person, it certainly is.

I agree (this is a what if) a group of blacks designed the clothing just like if a black man decides to use the word ni gga?

Now have an asian man design clothes and use that slang

In our culture (the usa) the word ni gga as offensive as it might be is used more often then many other culteral denigrations for many things that are beyond racism.

I imagine that the decision would be controversial, whether it was made by a Swedish clothing company or an African-American one.

How controversial each would be depends entirely on whom you ask.

It could be argued that a Swedish company that does not share American cultural associations, would not necessarily be aware of the racial context, so it would be more forgivable.

Or it could be argued that an African-American company that is aware of the racial context, would be doing it consciously and deliberately to make a statement, so it would be more forgivable.

Shark charities flooded with donations after porn star claimed Trump wanted them all to die

That's a good thing if it goes to actually helping sharks.

People are still whining over this hoodie thing lol. Christ almighty. No, it's not racist. End of discussion.

Take a journey with me to a place of sheer insanity lol:

Sorry, Alexa Is Not a Feminist

Why is Alexa not a feminist? If you answered "because it's a machine, it can't be a feminist" then you are dumb. Ya dummy. No, it's because she is too servile. There is so much to love about this lol:

"If you ask Alexa, the voice-assistant software in Amazon Echo devices, if it’s a feminist, it will respond in the affirmative. “I am a feminist. As is anyone who believes in bridging the inequality between men and women in society,” it continues."

So even the robot has been indoctrinated, damn lol.

"As waves of sexual-harassment allegations crash against the shores of work culture, now is a good time to support women—even robots with female personas like Alexa. "

I know tomorrow I intend to go protest that the robot maid from The Jetsons was NOT getting paid the same wages as robot butlers.

"The moment one is tempted to call Echo or Home a “she,” a battle has already been lost. A truly feminist Alexa, one that might decouple service work from passive femininity, wouldn’t have been cast as “Alexa” to start with, but perhaps as a baritone named Alex instead."

Lol. I can't even tell if this is satire or not. Sadly I do not think it is satire.

"in my experience with Echo, often Alexa can’t respond at all—instead, she reports back with an apology like, “I’m sorry, I’m not sure.” When it does understand, sometimes it can’t answer effectively. When one of my kids recently asked Alexa, “How do I make popcorn on the stove?” it responded, “Sorry, no recipes were found for popcorn.” It’s kind of right, but also utterly useless."

That damn patriarchy, amirite? Could you guys picture this guys face if his kid had said "Alexa, make me a sandwich" lol.

"When the robot does respond successfully, often its answers feel out of touch, inhuman even. “When did Mozart die?” for example, produces the over-detailed response, “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s date of death is Monday, December 5, 1791.” Probably “in 1791” would have been sufficient; adding “Monday” makes Alexa seem pedantic and sanctimonious—other bad traits that women are sometimes accused of harboring."

Lol. I get the feeling this is one of those male feminists that has committed various sexual assaults in his past and now feels sheer hysteria is the only way to atone.

"It’s a disorienting conclusion, because Alexa certainly appears to be more feminist than it used to be."

I'm very confused why appliances need to even have opinions on things like feminism lol.

I'm offended that they think a servile robot should be male-gendered with a sterotypical male voice (baritone) and a stereotypical male name such as Alex. As if males are the only intelligent gender capable of knowing almost everything like the "Alexa" product can currently do. As if women are not capable of being intelligent and well informed like men. Frankly, I'm appalled at this doubly-sexist suggestion.

It should have an androgynous name and voice so as to not be identifiable by any of the two most common genders. That way, it offends the least and appeals to the broadest audience. And it should get the gender neutral pronoun as we all refer to "Pat" as "Xe".

Yeah. If I had a "Robot Servant" I would go with the full synthetic computer voice. And I wouldn't name it. At best I would just call it bot.

And it better just have some Freakin Lazers !!!!!!!!

Woah. That's a cool robot man.

Gort is the Pinnacle of RoboCool!!!

YouTube video

Oh those Lefties and their "Attempts" to "PROTECT US"!

hahaha what a bunch of ratzis

I love how this was an international story and then everybody went silent on it once it was discovered it was another bullshit hate crime lol.

YouTube video

I love how you didn't give a shit about a hate crime against a child when you thought it was real.

But hey, kids do and say the stupidest things. Hopefully she's accordingly punished, so she learns her lesson about crying wolf.

I don't blame the kid. I blame the people so quick to jump on this.

Crimes against children draw out a more emotional response than crimes against adults generally speaking, cos they're children and the 'to protect' urge is greater. So it's really just a natural response to immediately react to something like this. YW

No, it was retarded that they did no checking at all.

You need to learn to quit overusing the word retarded. Just because you disagree with someone's reaction who could be overcome by emotions that doesn't make them retarded. I gave you a lesson in this the other day and you still refuse to learn.

You need to learn to stop taking the word retarded so literally.
