I'm seeing people put forth theories that Gunn wasn't fired over his tweets. The claim is that Disney was looking for an excuse to fire Gunn and pounced on the opportunity they saw. It's why they didn't take long to fire him for posts he'd already apologized for, which I'm sure Disney was aware of that fact.

The claim(without evidence) is that Gunn wanted too much money for Vol. 3

I heard something similar. Also heard he wanted volume 3 to again be a self contained movie with little to do with the rest of the MCU.
This wasnt going to work, especially with all the Fox Marvel properties coming back and whatever the events of Avengers 4 lead to.

But Marvel/Disney gets final say.

And by firing him they have broken their contract with him in any case so will be just as expensive as if they let him go amicably.

Also dont forget Marvel tried appealing to Disney to rehire him.

Here is what I find curious:

Disney Won’t Bring Back James Gunn For Next ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Film

"The director reportedly failed to win over Disney Chairman Alan Horn."

Almost makes it seem like it wasn't just what he did in the past that played a role in this, but his own personality as well.

Wow, that's interesting. Never even thought of that as a possibility. Though I figured his contract would have already been done and settled for the third movie some time ago.

They’ll still have to pay him as he does have a contract

Idea time! Hire a fake director and put an ear piece in his ear.

Then you have James Gunn somewhere else and he just says commands and the commands are filtered through the ear piece and boom, he's directing, kinda.

^ So like George Lucas with Return of the Jedi.

People need to move on with Gunn, what's done is done; he's not coming back.

I'd also wager that when Disney handed Gunn his walking papers, they already had at least two possible directors in mind to take over for GotG3 that at least on paper, would be a nice fit. It's a billion+ dollar franchise that is connected to the MCU (20+ bil?), they're not making decisions like this solely on feelings.

Or Spielberg with a bunch of movies, reportedly.

Lol, you’re so two faced, I’m shocked you’re not defending Gunn, but then again you’ve always been full of shit.

Anyway, Disney is wrong and now they could be out a ton of cash, a very good director, they’ve disrupted they movie lineup, why? Over some bs tweets.

There’s no good reason as to why they fired him.

@DarthPlaguis12

Don't forget they had huge plans for Marvel Cosmos; Gunn was going to be responsible for that whole phase.

Was.

They are still using his script so couldn't this make it possible for him to be involved in other projects too? Just not directing. He could still maybe produce or write for Marvel.

That script was written when Gunn was still working for Disney. Disney owns it thus.

The GOTG franchise is trash but Gunn clearly understood and had a good thing going on. The only other guy I can see managing it is Taika

^ What a weird whiny meltdown, even for you.

Also rumors are now that the film is on hold they may not use the script at all. I think Disney has no idea on how to move forward from here. They really ****ed this whole thing up in a rather impressive manner.

Robs having an argument with someone, this thread just became interesting

Not really, Even-More-Retarded-Time-Immemorial is lashing out at me over something I apparently didn't do and I just noted his meltdown.

Yes, they did.

It's such a shame. I was really looking forward to GotG 3.
