Tony Stark kinda filled the father-figure-always-do-the-right-thing-even-when-doing-the-right-thing-is-hard role in Peter's life.

Because that part was already told by Sony - twice.
And he is still subtly mentioned in CW, when Tony recruits Parker for his team.
Guess we look at different reviewers. But I've seen a few reviewers on YouTube (like Jeremy Jahns), as well as a few other sites and articles, who were positive about it. I mean, yeah, there were obviously some criticisms in there as well, but nothing to suggest anything seriously negative.
Not that reviews matter all that much. I am going to see it anyway.

Jeremy Jahns gave an overall positive review, but honestly his reaction sounded kind of meh.
But then he thought Dark Phoenix was the worst X-Men movie ever, so dont trust his reaction too much anyway.

Eh, I take 90% of reviews with a grain of salt nowadays anyway, as I have yet to encounter a reviewer that I don't at least disagree with on occasion, so you never know. I just noticed that the reviews I had encountered had overall been positive so far. Movie could, of course, still end up being bad, but I liked what I saw in the trailers that I watched, so I am hoping for good things.
^ Yeah of course take all reviews lightly.
I personally wasnt a big fan of Homecoming and that had outstanding reviews. And Jeremy says this wasnt as good as Homecoming.
Anyway the big thing im taking away from reviews is to avoid any internet stuff on this film until ive seen it. Because apparently a lot of big things happen which we dont want spoiled.
Well, this film is the first real look we have at a post-Endgame Earth (we aren't shown all that much at the end of that film itself, in terms of bigger picture), and I imagine it's also laying some of the groundwork for the next MCU film phase, so, yeah, probably going to be one where you really want to avoid spoilers going in.
