Star Wars: The Mandalorian - Discussion Thread

You’re conflating all instances of “comparing X” to Nazis or the Holocaust as if they are all the same, and all inherently wrong. That’s obviously not true, given history can and should be learned from, and many things done under the Trump presidency were inhumane and emboldened white supremacists.

But it's not valid to compare republicans to nazis, it's not valid to compare trump supporters to nazis, it's not valid to compare ice detention centers to nazi concentration camps.

So what you just said changes nothing.

Will Pedro be fired for calling trump supporters nazis?

nah, of course not

No, I would say this particular brand of rhetoric is exclusive to conservative circles, who seem intent on profilerating the myth that they are somehow being persecuted.

“How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.” Is what the post said, “this” being how the Jews were treated by the Nazis. I’m not sure how this cannot be considered a comparison, that was the point of the post.

Read her tweet (or whatever it was) again. She was not comparing the way Jews were treated in the concentration camps to how Republicans are treated now.

Just picturing the scene now.

"Hey Mando, where is Cara Dune?"

"Made insensitive comments about the plight of the ewoks on Endor, f*ck that b*tch she's dead to me"

"But...you've literally killed people why does this bother you?"

"The force works in mysterious ways".

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views." -Carano

I don't think she should have been fired for that, sure she's trying to be edgy again and likely painting the Right as the victims here again considering her previous views, but it's not an awfully offensive post.

Then again, it wasn't just that, she's been playing stupid games with Disney for months now. Seems she'd rather be edgy than employed, which is her right.

Sucks for me as I liked her character, but I am enjoying the expected Rightest tears of self-victimization though.

Pointing out the hypocrisy of disney and that this wasn't fireable does not equate to tears, but nice try 🙂

*nom* *nom* *nom*

Boycott Disney though if you really feel that way. Go on, take an actual stand.

I "feel" it is hypocritical the same way I "feel" the sun will set tonight.

Both are clearly true.

Oh and for anyone naive enough to think Disney has actual principles, just stop.

Meanwhile hyperbolic comparisons to nazi germany are okay for Pedro Pascal though, he can tweet out "this is america" accompanied by the following image:

The best part: the second picture isn't even from America it is from Pakistan in 2010 😆

Delicious.

Complete over reaction. Shes entitled to have dumb opinions and play victim.

And yeah as ares said, this actually has made her the victim so kinda proven her right.

It also seems like she was referring to early on in Germany. The nazis didn't start just gassing Jews from the very beginning. It progressed. They literally did more or less "cancel" jews first, depriving them of their businesses and their savings.

I mean its not the same at all. Jews were persecuted for their race. Not for their views.

That said persecution/hate should not be acceptable for any reason.

Not that Republicans are.

It's true it's not 100% the same. Just like ice detention centers aren't the same as nazi concentration camps.

Though it's not like there weren't other groups nazis targeted due to their beliefs. They were equal opportunity haters. If you looked different, they hated you. If you looked the same, but believed differently, they hated you.

And if the implication is that she is anti-semitic for the faulty comparison then we've had so much anti-semitism here for years given all the hitler and nazi comparisons i've heard when it comes to trump and his supporters. Not only did pedoro pascal compare detention centers to concentration camps run by nazis, but he compared trump supporters to nazis and also to traitorous confederates too.

^ Problem is some Jews have taken offence to her tweet.

But yeah I dont think she was being anti-Semitic at all. She just went overboard playing victim.

Okay and I'm sure some people took offense to what Pedro said about trump supporters too.

And the standard your using isn't even one progressives apply equally, some Jews also took offense to Ilhan Omar's statements, but that wasn't enough for the left to deem them anti-semitic.

See the problem? See the grotesque double standards at work?

Was just stating that some Jews took offence which was a problem. Im not agreeing with her being fired.

But Trump supporters taking offence is not the same as offending a race of people.

And Politicians get voted out, not fired by Disney.

That is the thing though an entire race of people did not get offended. Some members of that race were offended and some were not. Just like some Jews have been offended over brazen comparisons of Trump and conservatives to Hitler, nazis, etc. while others have defended such comparisons.

I know politicians get voted out and not fired by Disney. The point is the logic of "it is anti-semitic because some jewish people took offense" is something I have seen used by people who identify as left wing. But using that logic if they applied it consistently to Disney they'd want Pascal gone too. And if they applied that logic consistently to others like politicians(and why wouldn't they?) they'd also feel Ilhan Omar was an anti-semite.
