Joker (2019)

The film might be really good, but as an out of continuity movie it doesn't feel necessary. The DCEU seems caught at cross purposes, with the massive success & popular appeal of Wonder Woman & Aquaman (and maybe Shazam! as well) preventing them from scorching the earth of the Snyderverse completely.

Like Logan in 2017, it seems the film is being done just to be done, to adapt a famous story (this time, a loose adaption of The Killing Joke), narrative continuity be damned.

And Logan had high praise. One of my favorites. WB doing elseworld stories is kinda smart, even though it doesn't need to be done. Hopefully, it's good in the end. All that matters.

Forget Superhero Movies, Joker Already Looks Like Oscar Material

Yet, like the prankster it portrays, the trailer performed a magic trick, serving up one of the hottest film teasers in years and setting the internet into a giddy frenzy. In less than two minutes and thirty seconds, Joker convinced an audience that it's not only a must-see comic book movie, but also a potential awards candidate in the future.

Any doubts about Phoenix's ability to transform himself into the iconic supervillain (complete with the trademark laugh) were instantly squashed with this footage. Movie fans are more than aware of Phoenix's extraordinary talent, which has seen him pick up accolades for his outstanding performances in Gladiator, Walk the Line and You Were Never Really Here. However, the coveted Oscar Award has eluded him even though he's received three nominations. If the trailer is an accurate assessment of what's to come, though, it's entirely possible that he could be in line for a fourth nod, or perhaps even a win this time

Also from the trailer this joker seems to be the equivalent of a loser teen that was bullied to the point that they became a school shooter.

To be fair, a lot of Marvel/DC heroes & villains have the same background of being bullied.

Why should Joker's origins be any different?

😂 Phoenix deserves a Oscar for the trailer alone, how stupid and pathetic are some people.

👆

These people are clearly blinded by hype to formulate an opinion of their own.

I guess you like bland and weak characters, King Cuck.

Well, most villains are pretty weak.

I saw people shit their pants over this, like the trailer was awesome.

I just watched it.

Um. What am I missing here? It looks awful. Like some college students decided to do a film project with a dude trying to somewhat imitate Ledger Joker.

And no scenes of him doing..Joker stuff. And no "joker stuff' isn't just him laughing like a douche while people pound on him. No clever gadgets? No joker gas? Nothing? If these things are in the movie, a glimpse would have been nice.

To be fair, it's supposed to be based on The Killing Joke. Funny how the animated film based on it was already released less than 3 years ago.

So we won't see any of that (gadgets, joker toxin, etc.) --- just what made him go insane.

They replaced his pregnant wife with his mother, for some reason.

PS. There's a new Joker in "Gotham", right? 😂 They're really milking that cow like crazy...

I came away from the trailer not really knowing what to think, tbh.

That being said, it's a Joker movie. I have no doubt that the sheer randomness/ambiguity of the trailer was very much intentional... They don't really want us knowing what to expect from this on any level.

I doubt there is going to be Joker gas or anything like that. This will clearly be a more grounded film like Nolan’s Batflicks.

I’m fine with that. I’ll take good elseworlds stories over mediocre in-countinuty any day.

But in the end, did it make you want to see it in theaters or bootleg the first copy you can get? Or did it register as one of those things you'd wait until it comes to netflix to watch?

Oh, so maybe he'll have some dogs.

Lol, no.

Saw this youtube comment.

Creating the Joker in 1989:
Throw him into a vat of acid.
Creating the joker in 2019:
Throw him into society.

This time the dogs have clown face paint though. There is also a scene where a bigger dog bullies his dogs.

Galan never pays for anything, he's a cold-hearted criminal.

Yeah I had that feeling before the memes started showing up online.
Like society's bullying is what made this joker into a school shooter type.

But I have the feeling that they will do something corny , like in this version of The joker is going to be the inspiration of the real joker in the end. Probably a young joker is inspired by what happens in this movie and decides to become the real joker we all know , wearing the clown makeup and all that.
