My coworker said that Palps really couldn't stop the Force Lightning. It creates a feedback loop. And the reason he stopped the Force Lightning against Windu is he ran out of Force Power Juice. George Lucas said that Windu won fair and square in that fight so that justification can stand.

He also said that Rey could use Force Lightning so she may have also been contributing some of the reason why it didn't stop. Makes sense.

I don't have as much of a problem with the Force Lightning thing.

Also, my coworker enjoyed this movie. He's in his 50s. He loves the Star Wars movies. For every buttmad fan there are thousands of other people like him who just enjoy the hell out of the movies. He saw it twice with his family over the winter break. That's a lotta tickets. 🙂

Alternative argument: he really hates his own face

She didn't represent general American audiences?

She's overweight/heavy set, some might even call her "fat". She represents general Americans.

What was the obesity rate in America for 2018? 39.6%

Speaking of that, didn't she seem thinner in RoS compared to TLJ?

I think she had less than two minutes of screen time, so I didn't notice. I also wasn't looking for that though.

It's mostly an argument I've heard elsewhere, the push for an Asian lead to cater more to the Chinese box office.

Lucas only said Windu won the Saber battle right before the lightning clash. Lucas also outright confirms that when the Emperor starts getting weak that he was only feigning weakness. As shown right after with the Unlimited Powahhhh line.

So that argument doesnt hold up IMO.

Yes it seems this trilogy was built on nostalgia targeting those 50year olds. I just dont see it creating a new generation of Star Wars fans on the level the OT or even the PT did.

Not even sure we could call her a lead in ep8, more like a supporting character.

She was definitely little more than an extra in ep9 though.

That is a fair fact, sir.

As far as nostalgia, Abrams dipped too far into that pool here and only for the purposes of fan service, not to further the story.

eg Why did Rey go live on Tatooine? She has here own dusty shithole of planet with roots already established.

I actually confess I didn't notice during the movie, but thought about it afterwards after seeing a picture of her in an article walking the red carpet.

Here she's at the awards in 2018, I think she might have gained weight for the role or maybe lost it after, not sure.

But she's better looking than any woman the ranting incels that attacked her could ever get a date with

tbf, this goes with any woman

I can't imagine they asked her to gain weight for the role, but it's possible I suppose. I'm guessing she lost the weight sometime after filming TLJ.

That's right. Unlimited Power, etc. He didn't run out of juice.

It's just inconsistent.

I don't think she gained weight, it's just she's wearing clothing that is bulky and heavy and thus makes her look a bit heavier.

IMO her face looks fatter in TLJ compared to now.

Oh. Maybe. It's possible the stress of filming TLJ and the subsequent backlash over her character caused her to lose weight.

Honestly Episode 9 was just bad story telling. Going overboard on Nostalgia is a given with Abrams, but he should at least deliver a better thought out story.

But I will give them the benefit of the doubt in that particular scene and assume it was either:

A) out of his control or

B) he had to keep it up because he had no other defence against her Sabers

But either way I dont have much faith that the writers of this film thought it through.

They should have let Rian make all 3 movies.
