george lucas used the same bullshit excuse when he sold his baby to disney. truth is, as much as I disliked the prequel trilogy, and as much as an unprofessional twatwaffle as he's recently proven to be, I don't blame him for bailing out. there was a time, not too long ago, when wavering filmmakers' only fear was to lose profits and fall into obscurity. for example I highly doubt that ff coppola had to deal with all this toxicity when he made that godfather 3 abortion. people just didn't like it, lost interest, and that was that. the end. no campaign of petitions/hatemail/accusations/threats/etc from the internet babyman mafia.

If I'm being honest, I don't think any franchise really needs to "listen to its fans". Large groups of anything generally don't know shit. Or at least, don't know what's best.

What they do need, is to have people in charge that know what they're working with. What works and what doesn't. Say what you will about the Marvel movies, but Feige is a very, very shrewd man. And then there's the Mandalorian. A show that happens to have been developed in large part by Dave Filoni, the guy that was basically Lucas's apprentice.

And it looks ****ing sick.

I grew out of Star Wars before RotJ, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it as the SciFi fairy tale it has always been. I enjoyed the prequels with my first group of kids and if I was in the country, I would have enjoyed the sequels with my youngest. He's also too old for them now. They are kids films, the fact some slightly more adult written mythology sprung up around them for hardcore fans is by the by.

And Ahmed Beat was given hell mostly by the media, not fans. He even almost killed himself over it.

And frankly I find the prequel haters pretty hypocritical. Guys like Simon Pegg shitted on the Prequels constantly. Even came out said he cant respect anyone who likes them. And now hes telling fans to calm down over Last Jedi saying its just a movie.

Pegg is probably the most extreme example. But Most movie pundits have followed the same kind of pattern.

I was thoroughly disappointed with the prequels, and was able to express my opinions without personal attacks against people for the sole reason that they enjoyed them. yet I was routinely called "hater" on this forum. so would I fall into that category, in your opinion?

I remember people going after Hayden Christiansen's acting skills. But then again really I don't think even the best actors could have done much with that dialogue.

Some people bashed these newer films for the wrong reasons, but it seems some want to use that as a sort of shield against the wave of legit negative criticism.

couldn't agree more. much of the dialogue was bone-dry garbage and no caliber of great actor could have saved it. not that I'm trying to suggest hayden is a great actor, but he didn't get a fair shake. even daniel day lewis couldn't have polished those turd scripts.

depends on what you define as legit. if you're talking about recycling plotlines, shitty fight choreography, pointless amusement park scenes with no substance, forced character development, etc; i have to agree. however if someone's attacking from the angle of "vast hollywood feminist takeover conspiracy", I will put them on my pay-no-mind list.
