Well when they know its bad right now, then its probably worth taking the risk to try and improve on it.

As long as he walks, talks and acts like Palps, I won't mind how he gets beaten as long as it isn't too egregious. Rey is obviously the Luke/Anakin of the series (though taken to an extreme), so there's room to make it believable that she could beat him (assuming it's her, or at least partially her).
