The Clone Wars: Season 7 - Discussion Thread

She got her Filoni amp.

Yes I 've thought Rebels Ahsoka > Maul for a while now.

Maul might be the dumbest villain in Star Wars history.
Also loling @ the idea he could ever take Kenobi and Anakin on his own.

Looking forward to all excuses Maul fans are going to come up with yet again for this lose.

Ahsoka's performance against Maul shouldn't have surprised anyone, tbh.

I did thoroughly enjoy Maul's overall portrayal in this episode, and his casual displays of power(like gesturing away the blaster bolts.)

As for the saber battle: at least the motion capture gave us what is easily the best looking fight in the series. Beautiful stuff.

Sure it should have. Filoni wanks off Ahsoka but usually not to this extent. Furthermore, we had a different version of the fight in her novel and in that one she lured Maul into a trap. She didn't flat out defeat him. That's what I was expecting.

^agreed, and this is how it should have went. I’m no Maul fan, but that was just.. wrong.

Poor Maul.

Guy just can’t get a break

I completely forgot about Sora Bulq.

The guy has hardly been touched in canon.

Probs was one of the more interesting Dark Side acolytes. Coulda been great in TCWs. I liked Dooku's assembly of Dark Jedi in the Republic series. Almost like a precursor to the Inquisitorius.

On a different note, despite his poor performance, this was probably the most interesting Maul has ever been as a character. His conversation with Ahsoka was amazing.

And, yes, the fight was beautiful. Probably the best looking fight since TPM.

Should it have really? I mean Filoni went the time travel route to save her and let her live well passed into ROTJ and beyond. At this point I'm expecting her to pull a K'Kruhk, in that she just lives through all the eras.

This and the first episode of the ahsoka arc are the only ones that haven't been total dumpster fires. Faint praise, but I'll take what I can get.

Still, Ahsoka and Maul's scenes together could have been so much stronger if they'd actually bothered to set any of that shit up in prior episodes. The version of Ahsoka who was willing to do whatever it took could have been a great one, if they hadn't pulled that character change out of their ass.

Honestly, while I was able to enjoy this on its own, Ahsoka basically having zero sort of unjedi-like behavior prior to this episode made her choosing to help maul feel hollow. This isn't to say it's impossible, but it would have been far more meaningful if her character had actally been shifting towards that.

Well it was clear that Ahsoka was not quite up to Maul but still seemed very close, and the ending was complete Ahsoka wank.
.

Was it? Maul did disarm her multiple times, and was able to tire her out, on the other hand but Ahsoka was able to take his lightsaber , kick him out of a window, land multiple hits on him, and make him run.

Most significantly perhaps, Ahsoka was able to hold maul in place in spite of maul wanting to be let go. Now I think this was probably only possible because Maul was failling, but Maul not being able to break out of Ahsoka's grip woudl suggest some level of parity in terms of telekensis.

he could have just force pushed her

I mean, that was after he changed location. Maul did choose to run the **** away from ahsoka after taking a window to the chest. I don't think Maul is as confident about his chances vs ahsoka as you are.

Thinking about it, Ahsoka gave a good fight to Maul, she wasn't far behind him. But how could she be this strong? Just 1 year before these events, she got defeated by Barriss, and she was likely still weaker than Ventress, after that she quit being a jedi or trained by Skywalker, and she is suddenly this powerful. Also, judging from her growth rate, by Rebels she should be uber powerful, but she was at best an equal to old Maul or definitely below 2 BBY Vader

1. She beat barriss in season 2 and was winning their season 5 encounter until explosins offee had planned to set off hurt her.

2. She wasn't "at best an equal", she drove maul back on a dark side nexus

Either she was superior or the fight was to short to conclude anything

3. Vader is by scaling and even just feats much more powerful than maul

Agree 100%. I actually rewatched the episode *just* to see their fight again. It really is stunning.

And all of Maul's dialogue here(namely when he was talking about "THE plan"😉 was fantastic.

Yeah, maybe I'm in the minority, but with Filoni at the helm I was not at all surprised to see Ahsoka do so well against Maul. Like ares mentioned: they could have gone the same route as the novel with their battle... But historically speaking, if Filoni is given an opportunity to wank Ahsoka, he's going to do it.

I suppose an argument could be made that Maul could have killed Ahsoka IF he had delivered a killing blow immediately after disarming her. But instead, he opted to give her another chance to join him, and she capitalized on that. Either way, they were certainly portrayed as peers in this.

It is funny that Maul's original plan was to try and kill Anakin, though... Anakin would have absolutely stomped the christ out of him.

That also really helps showcase the vast disparity between Maul and Vader as of Rebels(when Maul stated that he couldn't beat Vader alone.)

so what's the canon fight? Novel or TCW?
