Which is kind of ironic, considering that in the age of the Internet and smartphones it would easier than ever to care about continuity.

Wanting writers to care as much about the stuff they're "writing" as much as their predecessors isn't any kind of syndrome. And yes, there are a lot of dogshit older comics. But even an average comic back then was still generally of a higher quality, in terms of writing at least, than a lot of stuff today. And I'm not even talking about the 70s or 80os here. In the last couple of decades, this century, comic book writing (and art in places) has greatly diminished bar a few outliers.

That's the problem: people don't care.

But honestly, I have no problem admitting that there were some really low lows back then. But there were some ridiculously high highs too, and those haven't been replicated in years.

Sure, I see what you're saying, but we don't have to stop here, you can trash the superhero genre and the entire medium in general... go back 200 years ago to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus... then you can do the same to sci-fi, fantasy, supernatural and similar stuff...

Scholars have identified at least 26 specific symbols in this Stone Age proto-writing, sometimes used alongside cave paintings, though often separate from them as well. Stone Age people likely used clay and charcoal mixed with spit and fat to draw their symbols on the rocks.
