Elected, yes. Enabled, no. After he was elected he quickly made sure his party was the only one in government (through legal means no less) and after that the ****ery began.

They were human, they evolved. Just because they displayed abilities doesn't mean they should have been treated differently, UNLESS PROVOKED
I think it was actually you, Stilt, that i said this to a while back, but in general: Humans aren't wrong to be afraid of mutants.
People always compare the X-Men to the oppressed minorities of the day, but that analogy falls flat when one important distinction is brought in to it: All joking aside, if your neighbour's son, Timmy, wakes up one day and decides to admit he's gay, or trans, or an atheist, that doesn't endanger your family. He won't burn your house down with a glance or walk through the walls or sneak in to your kids' bedrooms and boil their guts with telekinesis or whatever.
If Timmy is a mutant though? Yes, you have a reason to fear him, because even by accident, he might cause harm.
Now, the flipside is, mutants are born the way they are. Whether they're the next stage of Human evolution or not, they have as much a right to life as anyone else, and are entitled, imo, to defend themselves if necessary. imo it's why the Xavier school largely exists in the first place (using in-universe reasoning).
