It's honestly always weird to me how writers of certain comics get jobs writing stuff that isn't in their wheelhouse.
What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall when they handed out assignments.
From writing Lester kidnapping four families on a picnic and having them murdered so he can learn to think like Castle, and sticking a shotgun up the bum of a dirty cop as he shagged a hooker, to a feminist LGBT inclusive Thor.
Makes total sense.

I feel like that original ennis run of Punisher MAX was the way MAX should be used. Things could get AS intense or as violent as they could realistically. The story wasn't gonna sugar coat the natural progression of where a story was going. When a villain did something that actually made you physically sick to read it was that much more rewarding when Frank did em in.
edit, one of my absolute favorite things Castle has ever said was when he caught the guy who dug up and desecrated his family's bodies. He said something like "I'm not gonna waste time torturing you. But you made it personal so all that earns you is a little more pain." as he shot him in the gut and left him in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

I totally believe Priest has "black guilt".
He won't turn down an opportunity, business is business, but this is the same guy who wrote about a white monster killing black police officers, and turned it into a mutated black man.
And a lot of other little things, like that time he had Ray Terril working fast food and wrote in white hipsters getting rear ended by stereotypically ignorant gangster blacks in a junky car.
Not to mention all the good writing he does for Iron Fist, the whitest white ever

I was talking about how he had to fight with DC to have them let him write a character that wasn't black.
I don't think I've never read a Priest book that I enjoyed, but still.
