Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker - Discussion Thread

Oh, I'm not complaining, trust me. Overall I think they looked astonishing. There's a few things, specifically in AOTC that seem unfinished. The part where Mace, Obi-Wan and Yoda are walking through the Jedi Temple. It's not very well textured nor does Dexter look great either. (The Jedi temple was vastly improved in ROTS.)

But in general they do look fine. I don't agree with the common criticism (there was too much CGI) because it was essential to the vision George had and the kind of movies he wanted to sculpt. Could they have used less? Sure. Am I fine with how they did it? Yes. Just that a couple of things here and there didn't hold up as well as everything else.

Those critics also conveniently ignore all the practical effects going on too. Plus as you said, George could really only make the worlds he wanted to with CGI.

Despite the relations between George and Disney improving the past few years, their continuous publicity about how much practical FX they are doing - I got the feeling Muppet Yoda was brought back for The Last Jedi to troll Lucas. 😛 As payback for his 'measured' praise for The Force Awakens as a fan made movie.

Plus the prequels pretty much invented the concept of CGI characters and backgrounds. Peter Jackson has stated LOTR would not have been possible without TPM.

In fact im not even sure what Avatar added that was so revolutionary (aside from the 3D).

The influence is there in modern effects all over the place. Heck just look at Infinity War with the Wakandans with their shields being reminiscent of the Gungans in battle. Atlantis in Aquaman as well was very similar to the underwater Gungans world.

So yeah, love the Prequel effects or hate them, there is no denying they were game changing. And was kind of piss poor of the Oscars to give the best special effects award to Matrix over TPM.

I just love that image regardless of the movies on it, hilarious.

Middle One: "The **** is wrong with you???"

Left One: "He's an idiot..."

Right One: "HAI I"M A LIZARD!"

You need to see Godzilla II: King of the Monsters to appreciate it more 👆

Abrams went on record and said that any remaining questions about Rey’s parents will be answered by the end of this movie.

Who really cares at this point?

I know I do. Because I have nothing of value in my life to care about so I live so passionately through these children's movies. One day my pathetic fanboyism will be taken seriously.

I liked the answer we got in TLJ just fine, actually.

Nah kinda shits on the Skywalker legacy, when any random can have the same innate potential as a Skywalker.

Oh Skywalker potential, missed that...ugh damn earliness.

Sith Troopers will be a thing...

Well clearly the Sith are still a thing in this.

I feel like now that Kylo is running the FO, these might be his answer to Snoke's Praetorian Guards. /shrug

^ Yeah but why call them Sith troopers when hes not a Sith?

His philosophies may have changed since Snoke's death.

It may be due to Palpatine instead.
