I played for a division 1 school in the WAC (western athletic conference). Those schools are fairly weak in baseball.
My older brother convinced me to be apart of a weaker division 1 program to guarantee that I get playing time. He argued that the school does not matter, but your stats do. He named several players that came from small programs (including junior college) that made it to the majors. Kirby Puckett became a hall of fame player coming from junior college.
He argued If I go to a great winning program then I would have to compete with the best recruits for playing time.
So I decided to go with a lowly division 1 school with hopes of being the star.
Mistake.
Should have never bothered with baseball or at least took my chances at a great program.

Was this before or after you were a professional fighter, and college professor?

Was never a professional fighter. I studied martial arts here and there.
And definitely before I became a teacher of high school (then later an instructor). I'm not a professor. Will be soon as that's the plan.
