Of course....

but then it mutates. And we are vaccinated against a now mostly extinct SARS virus.

Similar to every flu season.

Unlike MMR, we are fighting against an ever changing virus. We can't very well shut down the entire world every time we run into a virus that has a mortality rate of .13%.

The season flu vaccine still confers therapeutic benefits to people who contract the flu. Combined with anti-viral medications administered within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms, the effects of the flu are marginal.

It is not just about having a functional vaccine, it is having a vaccine and treatments.

True and good post.

Well, except for the vaccine interference issues.

But it sounds like you're arguing my position which is vaccines are not the only solution, that is there is a large set of solutions.

The only other thing I'd wager you are not agreeing with me on is the futility in any of the current measures we have implemented such as shelter in place, closing all businesses, wearing masks, etc.

if you agreed with me there, we'd be pretty much on the same page.

My position is always that vaccines are not a majority of the solution but are a strong player in the toolbox to fight diseases.

Wisconsin Supreme Court strikes down extended stay-at-home order

Intriguing!

According to the Department of Health Services, 72 people who attended an April 24th rally protesting the Safer-at-Home order have tested positive for COVID-19, and there are an additional 1,986 confirmed cases in which onset and diagnosis happened after this date.

So 1,500 people do not wear face coverings and ignore social distancing, 5% become infected, exponentially spreading the virus to 2,000 other people. Own the libs, trigger the libs.

I think wanting the lockdown to end is one thing, but come on people should social distance too when out. And wear masks.

This is true on a personal level. I started getting the flu shot in my late 20's or early 30's. I've not had a bad flu since. At worst I get what feels like a half-flu, most years no flu.

I have gotten the flu shot every year since I was in my 20s. I have gotten the flu maybe twice since then. Both times, the strain of flu that caught on was different than the one originally projected to, so the vaccine did not offer full-immunity. But I only had a half-flu, with the symptoms much more manageable. That combined with Tamiflu, made it much less miserable than it ordinarily would be.

I've never gotten a flu shot. And I don't get the flu. I don't even get colds.

Still think the lethargy and really bad headache in Feb was COVID-19. Lasted about 30 hours and then I was 100%.

she wore fluuuuu velvet

flu is like hayfever, sometimes you get a bit unwell.. it goes away after a few days.

blakey blakey 'bout to make a big mistakey

I get colds a few times a year. Don't usually get a flu shot but did this year. I got the flu a few years ago and it floored me. I felt awful for like 3 days, had a pretty high temperature and almost went to the hospital but then it started to drop. Didn't vomit or anything, but was just exhausted.

Well, the results are starting to come in.

Out of San Diego's 194 COVID-19 deaths, only 6 were pure COVID-19 deaths. This is just reaffirming previous autopsy research where 57% of the dead could have died from a great many number of other issues other than a coronavirus:

Only had proper flu once in my life. Was absolutely brutal. Started when I was walking home from work with sudden onset gastrointestinal symptoms. Aka shat myself. Proceeded to piss out my ass every 5 minutes for nearly 3 days. Nearly hospitalised with dehydration. Was drinking about 12 litres of water a day to keep up. Then came the fever. Went delerious at this point. Don't remember it but was apparently found at 3am sitting bold upright on the side of my bed with the lights on. Scratching my sweat drenched sheets and babbling incoherently. This was followed by a chest infection so bad I couldn't lie down flat for almost 2 weeks because the fluid would build up in my lungs causing me to almost drown in my sleep. I ended up.trying to sleep by propping myself up in the corner of my bed/room with one of those v shaped pillows every night for weeks just to try and get some uninterrupted sleep.

So yeah. I wouldn't wish proper flu on anyone. If I didn't know any better I'd say I was quite close to dying from it. It took about a month to fully recover. I had aches and cramps for weeks afterwards.

Spanish research re-affirms what US Epidemiologists' research have shown about coronavirus: shelter in place and lockdown policies actually increased infections (and by extension, deaths) compared to those who continued to work "out in the world" as essential workers:

Holy shit (no pun intended), the flu can cause all those problems? That's scary as f*ck.

I had the misfortune of getting norovirus and influenza at the same time. I wouldn't recommend it.

Now that makes a whole lot of more sense. That's...probably as close to a guaranteed death as possible.

I had norovirus before. Similar situation. Almost dehydrated to death.

I got into the bathtub to vomit and shit at the same time and just showered.* Lost 10lbs in water weight which, according to the chart, I should have gone to the ER and got an IV. I couldn't even keep Gatorade down. But I forced the gatorade to stay down, eventually, because I knew I would die.

*I was a smart invalid: vomiting and shitting were occurring so frequently that I assumed they would eventually line up so I got into the shower just in case the "stars" aligned. When I'd heave, it would squirt out from the back at the same time. haermm

Well, it keeps piling on:

Japan so no increase in deaths or any reason compared to previous years. They saw a drop. This is despite not locking down and doing very little testing relative to their Western peers:
