1. Obsidian does use part of the starheart energy. We have seen that several times. When thenstarheart possessed him, when he and Jade merged due to it vs starheart controlled Alan, and 5 other times. It was also stated as a reason that Eclipso couldnt control him when he did all others linked to the shadow realm.
2. Obsidian does soul possess. His power comes from the shadow energy absorbed by Alan when Ian Karkul was exploded by the combined blast of Spectre, Dr Fate, and Starman. Karkull had the power to absorb souls. Using this power he was able to see into the future and know decades worth of America's future. Its bdcause of this "absorbed life energy" that bathed the JSA that they all had such longnlives and were still acrive in the 80s 90's and 00's.
Part of Todd's power is the ability to absorb soul and life energy. Its what gives him (and Karkull) their clarevoyance. So if SSB has been harmed by life energy than hes very much susceptible to Todd who wields the same.

And hes he is immune to damage. He went throughba suicidal period due to the fact that he sees the darkness in the soul of everyone he sees and couldnt kill himself, despite many efforts.

I like the sound of obsidian. Your description reminds me of a variant between the Surfer, and Void of the WildCATs. The Surfer can heal, or destroy entire planets as well with the PC. In Marvel, the PC is as essential to the fabric of the physical universe as the Speed Force is concerning essential universal powers in DCU.

You know but what you say is contradicted by the evidence.
In the Darkest Night arc Todd used starheart energy. During the time he took Alan to the starheart realm he did also. The starheart itself told Alan that it could control Todd because his shadow power was linked to the starheart.
The JSA were flooded with the life energy that Karkull absorbed. Energy he gained from future souls. This energy gave them longer lives and greater vitality for those extended years. Its literally why they are still active adventueres in their 90's 100's.
Ian cant "touch" anyone yet affects them.
Obsidian as I've already shown has multiple incidents of affecting things that cant be touched.
Never mind the fact that Todd has controlled people without ever coming into contact with them, from a distance at that.
