He claims Arbery stole nothing. He also claims some unknown person stole $2500 in fishing equipment.

Do you believe him about the equipment?

You already know the answer. He said he didn't file it.

Do you believe him yes or no? If you believe he lied, provide a motivation for the lie. No the "He wanted to help the McMichaels" theory has fallen apart, but perhaps you have something else?

Don't know. Why lie about it? People have provided theories on why he wouldn't file a report, I'm sure you can provide some about why he would lie about being robbed?

So the news lied when they reported that he told them about the 2500 fishing gear?

Who knows, he says he had nothing stolen and didn't file a Police report, doesn't sound very reliable does he?

I am still looking for any motive to lie about being robbed. We know he tried to contradict the McMichaels so we can't say he was trying to help them.

Why do it?

I didn't file a police report as to not drive down property values. And it could have been covered by my home-owner's insurance, too.

Anyone brazen enough to steal $2,500 of property—which is a federal crime—is not going to stop unless the police are involved. Not filing a report, enables that thief to strike again and again. Then instead of your one report, there will be multiple reports from your neighbors. Then where will your property values be?

Moreover, I have filed enough insurance claims to know that the first thing the agent asks for is a police report. You have to establish that the property was stolen by reporting it as stolen to the authorities under penalty of law. They are not just going to take your word for it.

I've covered this already.

My home repairs were $1,200 for the break-in and they could have been much more if I didn't do some of the repairs myself. In order to get it covered by my home-owners insurance, I needed a formal "reply" from the police that had the police report.

Getting a formal police report goes into the neighborhood crime data and directly drives down property values by tens of thousands of dollars, in just one "reporting cycle" which is usually a month.

Why? Because crime data matters in real-estate. Big time.

And I had 3 other neighbors who were broken into, as well. I talked to all 3 and the police officer handling our "cases" directed me to talk to all 3 of them before I got a formal police report reply back from them. None of us wanted to cause our real-estate value to plummet by getting formal police reports back because it would not undo the break-in damage and would not get our items back.

Seems like a no-brainer.

You can file police reports, online, for free, for any semi-modern city, by the way. 🙂 That's why it is best to talk to police, first. Don't file a police report especially if you plan to move from your home in the next 3-5 years.

I'd say the exception to my above recommendation is in the event that you have tens of thousands of dollars of stuff stolen. If that happens, you should file a police report and file it with you home owner's insurance.

Do a cost benefit analysis of your situation. Look at your amortization schedule and don't forget to consider your mortgage over-payments each month to assess how much equity you'll have in the home when you do go to sell it. Is it worth the police report and home-owners insurance deductible? Have you considered how much equity you will have in your home if you drive down all property values in the neighborhood by $10k-$40k with the crime data? How quickly is value regained in your part of the city after a crime is reported?

Sounds like a really messed up system.

And if the claim is that English was never actually robbed we also still haven't been given any reason that makes sense when it comes to why English would lie about being robbed. If his goal was to help the McMichaels I'm not sure why he also tried to contradict them. And then...if his goal was to help and he is willing to lie, why not also lie and say "Yeah I told them about how I was robbed" ?

It's a real estate consideration that has been around for thousands of years.

Humans want their home to be in a "safe" place because it is supposed to be where you are safe from the world. More crime less value. We'd have to change how humans view safety at a fundamental level...this is some gene-level shit that goes back millions of years before humans even existed.

Didn't we already solve this problem? It's because English was tired of getting death threats. He changed his story and went on national television pretty much crying about it because he wanted the death threats to stop. He was scared. 🙂

Oh right I forgot, the racists on the left who threatened him.

it just has to be 'der left' because they're mad that english contradicted McMichael's story, and that totally makes sense because reasons
