I'm not and I love trolling too.

😉

as for your previous points about practical human response to realistic scenarios, instead of the wanky power-fantasies which others have posted (and ddm's fantasy about lying to the police and possibly contradicting a neighbor's 911 call), i generally agree

I can't verify those numbers

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2015/crime-in-the-u.s.-2015/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/burglary

I think it is this table, murder by circumstance:

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2015/crime-in-the-u.s.-2015/tables/expanded_homicide_data_table_13_murder_circumstances_by_sex_of_victim_2015.xls

It shows 102 for "burglary". Of course there's a relatively large unknown number, so maybe you should at least proportionally allocate some of the unknown ones to burglary...

The converation fails to approach the fear of damage to family, the things you will do to protect yourself pail to how you will react to protecting those you love.
Absolutely true, however you might end up shooting your family by accident. A woman who works for me, here in Lagos had her house broken into and her husband stabbed defending her. He died before I knew her. Bad people exist he was unarmed, he was also a lawyer and obviously African.

That could happen, whatever you believe isn't going to chnage from my POV. You think guns are bad no one should have them, it seems from my opinion. I don't want to shoot ppl which is why I am fortunate enough to have what I have but that doesn' t dissuade me from using violence from others willing to use violence aginst me.

I edited my post as I found the table. Regarding the numbers, it doesn't say where those 102 deaths took place, it also lists things like deaths due to robbery and theft. how do we know none of those took place in the home?

Sounds like the person quoting the 100 number has an agenda and is being dishonest in how they frame things.

I also wanted to add that this type of discussion isn't "reasonable" when you leave city limits, most of my family is rural and we don't have protection nor do we have crime so speaking to points of crime really is an outlier.

Ok, well like I said to me the 400 number doesn't fundamentally change it.

Like I can get the idea, picturing myself as a smooth gunslinger that protects everyone and is the hero, or perhaps the stone cold killer, that takes the bad guys out before they even know I'm there, but I guess in reality I think it would be prudent to avoid a shootout and try to get the person to flee rather than attempt to kill them. That's just me though, like I said I don't necessarily blame someone afraid for their life in making different decisions.

I believe everyone will defend themselves, but defending yourself and shooting someone leaving your house for a TV are two different things.

Sure and I can't speak for everyone but that sounds like a reach, sure some will do that but most won't.

Shooting should always be a last resort, but the idea that people should have to wait until it's 100% clear that the criminal intends to kill you before shooting them is insane.

Not saying that was your stance.

😂 Would I want to kill (probably a kid in poverty) over a TV? **** No!!!

the topic concerns looting, though, which he depicted. no sheriff permission required to shoot a real threat to you/family/house inside your dwelling.

I tried bringing up the point long ago in this very thread

If a robber breaks into a person’s house and gets shot I will generally blame the robber. In a perfect world we could know the intent of the person and adjust our reactions accordingly but reality is there is no way to know what a person breaking into a house might be willing to do.

only a pussy would need a gun to defend their home. are you a pussy?

Yes, I know how very badass you are.

I don't have one.

But I should get one. So I can kill intruders/robbers and people who would do me or my family harm. 👆

So the result of this conversation is I will get a gun, finally, after all these years. Thanks, PVS, for convincing me to get a gun. 👆

it's not a shit hole you just have some very desperate people, and some with unpleasant agenda's.

Disagreed. Some places have poverty on par with "third world countries" here in the US.

I've talked about this, before - I only have to drive 40-45 minutes north from my house to drive into a shithole town that stays occupied because people are too stubborn to move of out of the shitty, falling apart homes made by their great great grand parents in the late 1800s, early 1900s.

Hmm, sounds a bit like some places in the UK.

However, crime is low. So they are not shithole shitholes. Just a bunch of law abiding white people and Native Americans with the best damn burger joint in the entire area (best patty melt I have ever had).
