So any member of the LGBT community that is bullied on the internet and it causes them to self-harm or take their lives is a fool who could just "sign out and step away", right? And all the cyber-bullying laws on the books should be removed, right?
I do not have any sympathy for members of the LGBTQ community who self-harm because of bullying, period.
I grew up with anti-LGBTQ animus being socially-sanctioned. If a child was bullied for his real or perceived sexual orientation, not only would adults not intervene, they would blame the child for not conforming. I heard the word f****t every day from the age of six to the age of 18. I watched people debate my dignity as human being, and vote my civil rights away. I could be arrested for having sex until 2003, I could not serve in the military until 2010, I could not get married until 2015, and I could be discriminated against in employment until last month. LGBTQ people face enough marginalization, oppression, and persecution from outside actors to turn around and take themselves out of the game. So like I told Scribble before, life does not come with trigger warnings, you are just going to have to get stronger.
