Universal health care is socialist. It's more expensive and less efficient. This can be shown empirically. The idea that it's the governments job to provide healthcare is something that's been arrived at through generations of propaganda efforts.
The job of government is making sure people dont use violence against each other, this promotes pluralism in thought, which would logically condense into geographic concentrations. This would allow each concentrated groups with similar interests to self govern.
What we currently have now, like most other countries, is a state, which is an institution that exists only for the sake of itself, as an unnecessary and criminal middle man between free people. This is anti freedom and anti responsibility.

The USA does have a great health care system, but only for people of a certain income range and higher.
The American comedian Alonzo Bodden put it quite well (paraphrasing here): 'Canada with universal health care and gay marriage have figured it out easily, that it's not an issue that deserves to battle about like the soul of the nation is at stake.'
Bodden has been to Canada often and has a Canadian wife. He's enlightened. That can happen when you get beyond the borders of your country for a while.
